The Villa's Christmas List!

With Christmas fast approaching (my how this year has passed by swiftly) comes the promise of gifts; children making their lists for Santa and heck I am again too.

God knows why, but I never seem to awake to Jennifer Love Hewitt in stockings, but with the Christmas period and New Year celebrations comes another time for presents where Randy Lerner once more dips into his seemingly deep pockets and whilst other clubs feel the brute force of the economic climate we seemingly are in a strong position to buy.

The thing is much like our Christmas Lists, we all want different things as presents. When we receive gifts do we ask ourselves how much it cost? or simply smile and accept the gift for what it is?

Lets face it some people can shop around and get us 3 CD’s for the price of one, others might pay the full RRP price and get you one CD. The thing that I’m beginning to realise is if there is something that you want in life and you obtain it for more than you think is reasonable, is the price not beside the point seeing as you have it?

If you get something you didn’t perhaps want/need then you might consider ebaying it.

Choosing a player is like buying a CD as a gift for someone, the recipient might like Country Music for instance but there is a large different between listening to the gorgeous Taylor Swift and the wonderful sound of the Rascal Flatts.

What happens when the latest in thing CD is unavailable though? Do we wait and perhaps leave the recipient unhappy or look to source an alternative?

We all have different expectations of what we want from Randys gifts this January, the general consensus is that we require a striker, but what kind?

For some like forum member PTP, a proven goal scorer who would perhaps get us 6-10 goals in half a season. Whether this costs 4m or 20m, do we judge them on their goal scoring tally for us? Their transfer fee? Work rate? Their reputation?

Some would like a quality full back to play left back or right back, the trouble is do we need an attacking full back or a solid defensive one? There does not appear to be one that fits both categories well available this January.

BBJ (forum member) would like players who go about their business and do their role with no frills just a professional attitude and performance.

Others like myself would prefer to have a flair midfielder capable of opening up a defence either from the wing or in the centre of the park.

The main point is, Randy is paying for player so does it matter about his price; probably not, what we do want and expect is strength in depth and for me the depth to be challenging the main starting XI for their spots in the team, then and only then will I consider us a bigger team than Everton, Spurs etc.

So my message to Randy is “I look forward to the gifts you buy us this Christmas, but please don’t forget to fill the stockings too” (Preferably with Jennifer Love Hewitt)

Do we really need Owen when we have our own Agbonlahor who is keeping Owen out of the England squad ?? I'd like to see Huntelaar in a Villa shirt and maybe then we'd be really challenging the top 4.

Huntelaar has just moved to Real Madrid. Not much chance of him in a Villa shirt!

Santa Cruz and Owen have to be our top priorities this window. I'd really like to see Sturridge from Man City come too. He looks decent.

Theres an ex england international who's a big villa fan with lots of pace, would sit happily on the bench waiting and is only 28. Come back Darius, poor fela is in Brum more than he is in Manc land, probably because he keeps getting mugged. Reckon we'd get him on a free and then go for Podolski, perfect squad rotation for our strikers and little Darius could come home!!!!

Unfortunately for us its Martin O'Neill who does the christmas shopping, so we can look forward to some big signings i am sure. Heskey anyone? Why get Owen or RSC when we can have the Top Goalscorer in the Championship. Do we need another midfielder? We have Osbourne and Salifou waiting in the wings.

Everton need the pennies he was a Villa fan as a kid he does more than a job on the left also abit of a beast from setplays as we seen the other night! imagine laursen carew lescott davies and cuellar all up and ashleys delivery! not to shabby at all! Then def a quality forward owen would be good if he wernt dead all the time same goes 4 i the only one who thinks signing heskey is a joke? ridiculed him at small heath and liverpool now years on we are seriously talkin about BUYING him!

Mr Owen please. Thanks. It'd do him the world of good coming to Villa. Imagine him and Gabby up front. My God. Fed by Barry, Milner and Young. IT'd be like that at Villa too!

i would like a quality right back, and two strikers from any of the following: Podolski, Heskey (yes im being serious, he's a great team player and we do not have a 'big man' to replace Carew), Sturridge from Man City, Owen and finally Doyle from Reading. While we're at it, Mellberg would be nice too ;)

Podolski wont leave until we confirm CL fottball and then possibly never.....I see what you're saying about Heskey but his confidence is too fragile and he goes missing alot in games, Sturridge is just TOO young and unproven at this time...Doyle or Owen could be a risky signing....Doyle has signed a contract extension anyway and I just believe a current top 4 club from England or even Italy will be offering Owen a last gasp chance at CL glory. Don't get me wrong, I think Owen would be useful, especially if Angel Gabriel gets injured but I can't help but think his heart wouldn't be in it for Villa. Get me Crouch or Zaki and Geovanni any day. All good, youngish players who really show their heart every week. Crouch is much better than Heskey - a better target man, more skilfull and better strike rate.

I agree Crouch better than Heskey but how much would he cost? Heskey at 3mill or Crouch at 15mill? Add into it that MON knows Heskey inside out and knows what makes him tick. Sturridge too young? Disagree, he's already scoring goals for Man City and the only way is up for him. There is so many arguments that could be had with this, I will just leave it to MON, he knows what he is doing!
