Sunday Press Aston Villa Transfer Talk

Not a great deal of transfer rumours at the moment but the one that there is could see us get a new player next week!

According to the News of the World, Aston Villa have met with former Celtic legend Henrik Larsson and are due to sign him.

The Swedish international striker, who spent a successful loan spell at Manchester United last year, is a free agent after his contract with Helsingborgs ended and so could be signed now.

The paper say that Martin O'Neill, who obviously managed the Swede at Celtic, a few days ago and further talks are expected over the next 48 hours.

They say Larsson could be in a Villa shirt by the time we kick off against Bolton Wanderers next Saturday.

The 37-year-old told the Daily Star: 'I am a free agent and have not yet decided what to do next. I like Helsingborgs, but I want to see a change of attitude and in the way the club is run before I sign again. I have not completely closed my mind to the idea of going abroad again, so we will see what happens.'

So what do you think, a worthwhile short term fix with John Carew out or .... ?

Meanwhile Marlon Harewood is still being strongly linked with Stoke City for £4million. This rumour has been around since last summer and with the Hare having no impact at Villa at all, it would make sense to cut our losses and let the player get a regular first team place elsewhere surely?

Larsson link rubbish Marlon Hareless link has some substance as he really has no future at Villa Park.

Agree Col, I think that the Henrik Larsson link is just ridiculous. That'll never happen.

Kevin Doyle in from Reading, and Jermaine Beckford in from Leeds United, thats the two we want (says I). Get them onboard, and a top four place would look considerably more likely.
