Brad Guzan Is After Brad Friedel's Jersey!

Brad Guzan Is After Brad Friedel's Jersey!

Brad Guzan has told Fox Sports what an influence on him Brad Friedel is but says that doesn't mean he doesn't want to take his fellow American's No1 shirt!

The 24-year-old USA international said:

'I have learnt so much from Brad Friedel. I can't put into words how much. To be working with him day in and day out, to be able to pick his brain and watch him in training and games is huge. I'm a young goalkeeper who has only been over here for a few months and being involved with him can only make me a better goalkeeper. You don't want an environment where he's bitter towards me and I am bitter towards him. As a keeper, only one can play and we have a good atmosphere between us.'

'But one day I want to take his place. That is the plan. My job is to make it difficult for the manager when it comes to selecting his starting 11.'

Martin O'Neill added, 'He wants to push Brad Friedel and if anything happened to him, I would have no qualms about playing Brad Guzan. I think he is more than capable.'

We'll get to see more of him tonight as he will start in the UEFA Cup game v Zilina.

Could end up the bargain of the century if we are lucky, certainly has big boots to fill with the quality American keepers who have graced the Premiership to date.

Not guilty for either of the Zilina goals in fact could almost have saved Knights effort.

Good luck to Brad jnr. I had reservations when we brought him over, having seen him play 'live' four times in the U.S., but so far he hasn't put a foot wrong, and looks to be progressing and developing slowly but surely.

Brad snr though is exactly what we needed at this moment in time. A safe pair of hands, and valuable experience. Has to still be amongst the top three keepers in the premiership.
