'If It's Football, It's Vital'

O'Neill 'Very Excited' By Delfouneso

There has been a lot of talk about this player, maybe too much talk, this player is called Nathan Delfouneso.... Sorry, I've been playing U2 live at Red Rocks...!

Martin O'Neill has told the official site that Villa youngster Nathan Delfouneso will have a role to play in tonight's Uefa Cup game and adds he is 'very excited' about the players potential. Same as Gabby Agbonlahor before him, Delfouneso has come up through the ranks and has been a regular on the score sheet having got 22 goals for Villa as well as scoring at different youth levels for England.

MON said: 'He has an awful lot of ability and I've no doubts about playing him in such an important night in Europe for us.'

He also spoke to Janine Self at the Sun about the 17-year-old hot shot saying: 'For me, there’s the same talk about him as there was about Gabby Agbonlahor at the same age. I didn’t see much of Gabby then but I’ve seen this boy develop. He’s got a lot of talent, there’s a lot of excitement about him and he’s a genuine threat.'

He also says that just like Gabby, this player 'won't be a one hit wonder. There is an awful lot of natural ability there. He can go past players and he’s getting stronger. He’s been training with the first team 85 per cent of the time so he’s used to it. I don’t think he’ll be overawed.'

The potential is there. Has a lot of natural ability. A lot of learning and developing still to do, but certainly looks promising.

Just hope that he's not rushed. I dont think he will be, MON is no fool. Hopefully we dont allow the expectations we all have of him to put undue pressure on his young shoulders. He's nowhere near the finished article just yet.
