Aston Villa Birmingham Name Change LOL
Sometimes you just have to laugh at the stupidity of others. This is one of those times.
All football fans, have a laugh at city council leader Mike Whitby.
Why?
He has suggested the mighty and proud club of Aston Villa should change their name (a name unique in the world of football by the way) to incorporate the name of the city.
Aston Villa Birmingham.
How about you changing your name to Mike Whitby Never In A Million Years!?
Councillor Whitby thinks the fans get confused because the name doesn't associate them with the city of Birmingham.
Whitby said: 'Aston Villa is one of Birmingham’s great institutions and is an international brand that the city is proud of. I think that a closer association between Aston Villa and the city of Birmingham could help boost Birmingham’s profile across the world. It is great to see the football club using the slogan ‘Aston Villa - pride of Birmingham’ this season.'
Bless him. 134 years with one name, founders of the league, then we change it to suit the council. Is this the same council who wanted to change Christmas to Winterville a few years ago?
Maybe Birmingham should rename itself Aston Villa!?
Not only has he insulted the fans of this club, he has also insulted the 'other arf' of the City as he might have forgotten there is a small club who reside at St Andrews who are called Birmingham City! Not to mention the insult that he thinks a man as classy as Randy Lerner, or any of the board for that matter, would even consider such a proposal.
As said, sometimes you've just got to laugh!

I thought the Club's name represented the area in which it was established and still resides... yes the district of Aston. Maybe the councillor would also like the name of the Holte End changing to the Expressway End. After all he probably does not know why it's called the Holte End following the councils decision to bulldozed that bit of history back in the 60's to make way for the aptly name Aston Expressway. Whatever next banning hot potato’s on match days…

Thinking about it maybe the councillor should first consider changing his name to one which is more symbolic of the city he represents… rather than a smelly fishing village in the North.

For a great city Birmingham has been cursed with some ridiculous Council Leaders over the years with some absolutely barmy ideas.
This one is among the 'priceless' category. Given that some great thinkers have come out of Birmingham in the past is really makes you wonder what got into the cocoa of this twerp.

This guys is the type of tit that clearly has run out of things to suggest to his seniors. To prove that he still merits a salary (debatable), he's decided to come up with this garbage. Maybe Birmingham should change its name to reflect our magnificent club!

Can I just point out that nobody ever in the history of anything has wanted to rename Christmas "Winterval"? It was supposed to be an all-encompassing term for EVERY celebration that takes place in winter - Christmas, Diwali, Eid, New Years, etc. - not as a replacement for Christmas. But thanks to the right-wing press, it's ofted cited as "political correctness gone mad" and all the rest of it. It's completely made up, and has become an urban myth.

I'd be surprised if a fan, (and I mean a proper footie fan, not some old couple in Kansas or some 5 year old Chinese girl), doesnt know that Villa are based in Brum. Also let's not forget that Aston was once bigger than Birmingham and is as important to the city as another other ward or district.
