Laursen We Can Deal With The Pressure

Laursen We Can Deal With The Pressure

Vital Villan needs a new set of reading glasses. Martin Laursen has said Fulham is a vital game and that we need to start living up to our favourites tag.

After battling our a result against Blackburn, we failed to turn up against Newcastle and Boro. We then took a resounding win over Arsenal and drew with Man U.

We now face Fulham, which on our form could turn out to be another disasterous result, but Laursen is adamant we can keep this run going and make up for lost points against Newkie and Boro.

Speaking on the official site, Laursen said:

'Fulham is a vital game. I think we can improve when the pressure is on us as the home team.

'When we are the favourites against the so-called 'smaller' sides, we have to keep hold of the ball and create chances. That's where we can improve.

'It will be difficult against Fulham but we need to win. We need to keep this momentum going.

'We want to stay in the top four and we will certainly be up for it on Saturday.

'Overall, we have to be very pleased with our season so far.

'We have played two big UEFA Cup games - in a competition Villa have not been involved in for a long time - and we have won both of them. And we are also fourth in the league.

'We have beaten Arsenal at the Emirates. We have drawn with the English and European champions in Manchester United. Everything is moving in the right direction.

'It is a pleasure to play for this club. We are playing some really good football going forward and we are defending well too.'

With a little more luck, a bit more commitment when the going gets tough, although it's still way to early to expect top 4 come the end of the season - we could all end up with a little surprise again.

It's a pleasure to have such a leader of men in our team.

Be interesting to see whether we can (deal with the pressure) in the coming weeks. Not doubting our skipper, but the old adage prevails here, action speaks louder than words. All too often we flatter to deceive.

With one central striker playing alone up front, as may well be the case again, we are going to struggle to get onto the end of, and convert any openings.
