'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Curtis, Collymore and Capello

Stan has been chatting to the official site again, and this time he thinks self confessed 'pub' player Curtis Davies will have a long England career ahead of him.

Not that he's taking any credit for it, but Collymore explains he did predict that Davies would be in the squad when Rio pulled out of the Germany friendly.

'I forecast that Curtis would be included in the England squad after noticing that Rio Ferdinand was missing from Manchester United's line-up against Stoke.

'On my Talksport programme 'Call Collymore' that evening, I posed the question about who might be drafted into the squad - and put Curtis's name forward as a strong contender.

'I wasn't surprised to receive quite a few calls from Villa supporters heading home from London, all of them agreeing with me.'

It's a shame that Davies didn't get on the pitch for a run out like Ashley Young to be honest, but with how he has been performing for us, he's surely not that far away from gracing the pitch regularly.

Collymore continued:

'Curtis has all the attributes to be a top-class international footballer.

'He's tall, he's quick, he reads the game well - and he's a level-headed young man who isn't doing badly at all for someone who once described himself as a pub player!

'I'm sure both Villa and England will reap the benefits of his talent for years to come.'

Providing he can keep himself ahead of Cuellar in the CB pecking order I'm sure he'll keep putting in the performances and catching Capellos eye. If he can keep progressing and keep his head down he should, a) be at least in the squad for Africa, and b) maybe be looking to establish himself as a regular by the Euros in 2012.

Stan speaks sense! Well, when he's talking about Curtis Davies he most certainly does. CD's performance at The Emirates was one of the best showings I've witnessed from a Villan in years.

What is it with Fabio Capello and Ashley Young though? I just get the impression that Capello isn't as convinced about Ashley's merits as are the rest of us.
