Carew To End Career At Villa

John Carew has announced he would like to end his career at Villa, and that he's not thinking of moving anywhere else.

Carew hasn't even hit two years at the club yet, but he's notched up 54 appearances with a return of 21 goals.

His goal tally is better than it's been at any other club in his career, infact the second best was 20 goals in 84 appearances for Valencia.

Speaking on the official site, he said:

'I'm very happy here. I'm proud to be part of the club because there's great ambition and I'm sure we have a great future.

'That's why I signed a new contract. I love the club. I love the fans and we have a great group of players.

'Football in this country suits me very well. It's a very quick game, which I really like. I think I've found the right football country.

'I would like to finish my career here. I'm not thinking of going anywhere else.'

On the topic of his goal return, a ratio of a goal basically every two and a half games, he added:

'I don't keep a note of the goals I score. I know some strikers do, but it's something I've never done.

'I don't set targets either. All that matters to me is to keep improving as a player - the rest should come automatically.'

With Gabby's improvement this season, and growth as a lone striker it has given us more options. Plenty were talking about the Man U game and how we seemed to defend as a 4-5-1 yet on attack Young and Milner stepped up and we countered like a 4-3-3 which does give us options when Carew is having an off day.

With him being so happy at the club, hopefully we'll see a bit more consistency from him and see John Carew at his defence destroying best more often.

Hmmm. I remain unconvinced. Still, I'm old fashioned, I like players busting a gut to be awake for games. Nice words though.

I just don't think all players can play like that Mr Fear, week in week out... It doesn't matter that they're professional footballers and train everyday, I just can't imagine that every single player can run lengths of the pitch the same as the james milners.

I am more than happy with him, I also reciprocate his love as i love him as well

Old news. I reported this months ago when he first said this to the Norwegian media. I'm surpeised it's taken this long for the "local" media to pick this up.

Tubbz, me too! 21 goals in 54 apps is very good! According to wikipedia Owen has 22 in 55 - essentially the same return, but Carew offers more in terms of holding the ball up and laying it off to bring others into the game - vital if we're under pressure. Well pleased!

I'll be happy to see Carew in Claret and Blue for many years to come, very glad he has found his home at Villa Park. I'm sure he'll be back in the starting XI come New Year, hopefully continuing his decent scoring return.

Peter Withe scored 74 goals in 182 games, so Big John is a on the same scoring averages as a Villa legend. If he can stay for another 3 years and finish up with comparable figures, and we a lift a pot or 2, then I think we we will be singing 'he is bigger than me or you' in the pubs long after he has gone.

Hope he does remain at Villa Park for a few more seasons yet, but it is imperative that we bring in as soon as possible, serious competition for his starting place. His injury problems are giving cause for concern, he, and Gabby for that matter, need to be kept on their toes.

We're definitely a better team with JC in the starting line up, but we need options and alternatives up front, something we dont currently have.
