'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ash Praises Midfield

Ashley Young hasn't only praised O'Neill's tactics against Arsenal, he also had a few words to say about the midfield.

Wish I'd have seen this one earlier, I'd have put it in the other article.

Speaking on the official site - I really need to find a new way of saying that - how about On the official site speaking?

Anyway, Ashley has praised the performance of all 3 midfield players against Arsenal, positively raving about how they bossed the midfield.

'It was a massive team performance and I thought everyone dug deep - but the midfield three was key for us.

'We won the game there - they were brilliant.

'Stan coming back into the team was vital. He's been brilliant all season. In my opinion, he has been our best player.

'It was great to have him back and I thought we looked good with him in there. He was immense.

'Steve was disappointed with the Middlesbrough mistake but he didn't let that play on his mind. He put in a brilliant performance too.

'And Gareth's display was what we have come to expect. He was full of running and showed his class throughout.'

Still an amazing change for Petrov, this season O'Neill's belief in the former Celt has certainly been vindicated.

NRC is gonna struggle to get back in the team while Sidders, Barry and Petrov remain fit.

I said it last year, but it's now obvious. When Stan is on the field Villa can win every game
Poncho
He is the Makelele-type player with a little more forward play to his game that McCann never was!! I just think that that is not what he was bought for. I always saw him as the Lampard type, supporting the front man and scoring a few - remember his debut v West Ham!!! But now Sidwell can do that and we have a perfectly balanced midfield three with Reo-Coker, Gardner, Osbourne and Salifou waiting for a game. Looks good to me!!
deano.avfc
I don't think that was what he was bought for deano, but more how he has adapted his play to the Premiership - we all know it's a completely different kettle of fish to the SPL. Be interesting to see how we carry on playing now - I imagine we'll stick with the 4-5-1 for Man U, but then will we go back to 4-4-2 or what?
Mayo_12
for me, oneill cannot change the treble of barry petrov and sidwell now.
Stig
I did try to tell people that we missed Petrov recently. He has become a vital cog.
Nigel-not-Reo
No NRC-we're much better without him.
gwyllum18
Its no coincidence that as soon as petrov comes back in we were back to our "old" selves again.
lerneravfc
Messrs Barry, Petrov, and Sidwell are definitely going to be a more than competitive midfield for us, each complimenting one another perfectly. We now actually have a midfield trio ready, willing, and able to compete against the very best.

Fingers crossed that this very promising midfield trio doesn't lose a key member when the January transfer window comes around, with renewed interest from Liverpool or a.n. other in our ex-skipper.
