'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Arsenal Fan Interview After Villa Defeat

1) So Rocky, how do you assess the season, great win (and it was a GREAT win) v Man Utd one week and spanked by the Villa the next?

It's the story of our season really. I just can't understand it. There is obviously something wrong with the team but we can't really do anything about till January so we'll just have to keep battling on till then. Hopefully we'll be able to find some sort of consistency to ensure our season isn't over before that.

2) Where do you see yourselves ending up this season and do you see Villa as serious challengers for a top four place?

Champions ..... Midtable ...... your guess is as good as mine with this current form. As for Villa, you can only really go by the table and form and a third of the way into the season you gotta say yes, the have a real chance of making the Champions League.

3) Arsene Wenger. Legend, great manager, done mighty things for Arsenal. No one can deny that. BUT does there come a time when even the best can no longer continue to build and re-build teams?

There does come a time when the best can't build teams anymore, but did you see the Carling Cup in midweek? Wenger still has a lot to offer, he's just made a couple of errors/had his hand forced in the last 12 months that has left us short. There is no manager in the game who can run our club like Wenger does. He's also done (still doing a) a lot for the English game. For the past twelve years he's had to budget for a stadium whilst at the same time becoming the most sucessful Arsenal manager ever, people failed to see his long term vision which is now bearing fruit. Mark my words, you'll see a lot of Arsenal players in the England set up in the coming years.

4) If you could have one player from Villa, who would it be and why?

Anyone who can win a defensive header please.

5) What do you think of Villa and Martin O'Neill?

He's ace. He's a fantastic manager, but he makes me laugh too. The game needs characters, and you've certainly got one there.

Thanks Gooners, see you on Boxing Day at our gaff..!

He never said what he thought of Villa.... a bit bitter maybe ?
Villa 4 Ever
Don't! Leave him be, he's obviously a bit upset - bless!
godzvilla
Glad results went our way today. I always enjoy when our our rivals Everton and Hull tie!
los_angeles_villan
I believe Rocky did say that Villa are contenders for 4th spot. Nothing bitter about it, I think. Arsenal were beaten by a better side on the day.
prits
A lot of gooners are moaning about Gabbys cupped ear celebration inflaming arsenal fans and lacking class.....Do they not remember the antics of wright and Henry?! pitiful
rotter82
No complaints from me and i'm a gooner. Villa completely played us off the park on Saturday. You looked like the home team and we were lucky it only finished 2-0. Martin O'Neill is building a very good side and it won't be long before you are pushing into the top 4.
codchops
cheers codcops - good luck. we'd better get laursen on a new contract, cos he sounds like the perfect man to sort arsenal out!
NorthcliffeBandit
Pop your windows on V4E, and not the Villa tinted ones .... I said Villa are challenging for top four.
Rocky7
Actually rocky he asked you "do you see Villa as serious challengers for a top four place?" and fair enough you answered it, but then he asked you at the end "5) What do you think of Villa and Martin O'Neill?" and you just went on how MON is a great manager not about Villa... I wasn't going to say anything else but when you come out like that towards me i start going into proven facts that everyone can see for themselves.
Villa 4 Ever
V4E stop embarressing yourself. Rocky has come on here representing the defeated team and been very gracious, not many would do that and you are just picking flies. Good luck for the rest of the season Rocky and hopefully it will be Redscouse dropping out of the top 4 and not your good selves. That said, we'll take either, AVFC are on the move.
Villan Of The North
Guys, Rocky gave up his own free time (and he doesn't have much of that at the moment due to personal circumstances) and answered a few questions. He's a top guy and I think was truthful and gracious, it really doesn't matter if he read the one question as what do you think of MON and not the Villa part!

Can't believe anyone is complaining at the goal celebrations, half the strikers in the Prem do that cupped ear or fingers on lips thing. Not very original but hardly the end of the world!
The Fear
Oh yeah .... I missed the "Villa" part!!! Apologies.
Rocky7
This is a great idea getting the losing team's fans on so we can rub it in. Don't think the idea should be continued if we lose though!!!!! Agree with VOTN though would much rather see Liverscouse struggling and they still might when their luck ( which has been in abundance)runs out.
Villan444
we know you love us really Rocky!
The Fear
Wow, some of you Villa fans are incredibly petty and meanspirited. Rocky's answers were perfectly gracious and complimentary of your team and manager, but still that's not enuf for some of you. Go on over to VitalArsenal, no one there's making any criticism about your club at all, only about our own players and manager.
jaelle
Sadly I agree jaelle, please don't tar us all with the same brush though. Generally the only fans we don't get on with are Redscouse, Spuds and the Blosers and I'm sure you'll agree, their kind of vitriolic arrogance is just not welcome anywhere (quite why the Blosers are arrogant I don't know, the mind boggles really)
Villan Of The North
haha sorry Rocky, wasn't very nice of me to pick on you, i would say good luck for the rest of the season but Villa need that fourth spot ^_^
Villa 4 Ever
That's two seasons on the trot now that we've outplayed Arsenal at The Emirates. They got away with it last season. This time around, their luck ran out.
glensider
Still only a fool would write off either Arsene Wenger or his Arsenal team. I wouldn't have the balls to bet against them finishing as runners up to Chelsea, if they get their act together, and quickly. They haven't become a bad team overnight, A week ago they were basking in the acclaim and glory of rolling over Manchester United, so the ability and quality is very definitely there.
glensider
Glen - Make that 3. You did a good job on us in the first ever game at The Grove too ..... we were lucky to get a point that day.
Rocky7
I like the team MON is putting together and I see shades of Rio Ferdinand in Curtis Davies (without the roasting sessions hopefully lol) and the two lads upfront are the only things in the country as fast as Walcott, what great young talent England has coming through some of it at Villa, an even younger generation at Arsenal. I still think we can finish 3rd this year, Man Utd aint got their act together, the bin dippers can't go on stinking up the league all season and you guys can defiantly pinch 4th/3rd if you stop losing to the same s**t clubs that we do (present company excepted!) P.S. guys, don’t be knobs, Rocky's a top bloke and nitpicking does yourselves and him a disservice! Good luck for the remainder of the season, your team is also entertaining to watch!
