Four Villans In The England Squad

Gabby Agbonlahor, Ashley Young and Curtis Davies have joined Gareth Barry in the England squad for the 'friendly v Germany on Wednesday 19 November at the Olympic Stadium, Berlin.

I'm with Martin O'Neill - not literally obviously! - on the futility of this friendly at this stage of the season, but congratulations to the Villa boys, great to see that you can fulfil your international dreams whilst being at Villa Park!

Squad:

Goalkeepers

Scott Carson, West Bromwich Albion
Joe Hart, Manchester City
David James, Portsmouth

Defenders

Wayne Bridge, Chelsea
Curtis Davies, Aston Villa
Glen Johnson, Portsmouth
Joleon Lescott, Everton
Michael Mancienne, Wolverhampton Wanderers (Loan from Chelsea)
Micah Richards, Manchester City
John Terry, Chelsea
Matthew Upson, West Ham United

Midfielders

Gareth Barry, Aston Villa

Michael Carrick, Manchester United
Stewart Downing, Middlesbrough
Steven Gerrard, Liverpool
Frank Lampard, Chelsea
Theo Walcott, Arsenal
Shaun Wright-Phillips, Manchester City
Ashley Young, Aston Villa

Forwards

Gabriel Agbonlahor, Aston Villa

Darren Bent, Tottenham Hotspur
Peter Crouch, Portsmouth
Jermain Defoe, Portsmouth

Curtis Davies says 'This just shows how quickly things can change in football because a while back I wasn't in the Villa team. It's capped off an amazing few weeks for me. I got back into the team in Prague as captain, I have just had a baby girl and now I'm in the England squad. It's fantastic.'

Ashley Young told the official site: 'I have always said the key for me is playing well for Villa and hopefully the recognition from England will come hand-in-hand with that. Thankfully, it has and I have that chance. Now I want to train - and hopefully play in the game - and prove that I deserve to be in the squad. I will go there confident - particularly after the result at Arsenal - and play my own game. I will do the things that have got me in the squad in the first place. Fingers crossed, I will do well.'

Gabby Agbonlahor added, 'It's great to be called up and I am really looking forward to linking up with the other lads. It's a real honour for Villa to have four players included in the squad and hopefully we'll all impress.'

If JT pulls out could we see a Davies / Mancienne centre back partnership?

Davies is an interesting one, I do think he is a future Villa captain and should become an England regular, he is young and learning and is very tough + he is learning at Villa from Laursen, a true master.
The Fear
I think The Fear has it spot on there, what better teacher than Laursen, I really wouldn't swap him for any player in the world he is a true class of his own, Davies is still learning and leaving him out of the squad here and there you can just see how hungry he is for first team football. I just hope Agbonlahor doesn't blow his chance, he is better than Defoe, Crouch, Bent and could probably do a better job than Rooney when it comes to goals.
Villa 4 Ever
Deserved call up, especially after the Arse game

I just hope they all stay injury free, with our squad and the busy Christmas period approaching that would really point a fly in the ointment.
Villan Of The North
You know the Manure buys will all miraculously recover in time for the weekend showdown when our lads will be knackered.....
Villan444
What a boost both for the individual players, and for the club as a whole.

Lack of Manchester United players due I wonder to the fact that Uniteds next three games, all away from Old Trafford, all tough encounters on paper, against us, Villareal, and the derby against Manchester City?
