Emile Heskey Linked To Villa Again!

The source of all things true in football, the Daily Star, today linked us once again to Wigan's striker Emile Heskey. Or at least I think he is a striker, he doesn't seem to actually score much does he?!

According to the red top, Villa will try to lure him to Villa Park in January with Wigan being tempted to cash in as the big England forward could leave on a free in the summer.

In recent months Villa have been linked numerous times, mainly I guess because he would be a) cheap b) is a big man and MON likes the big man small man combo c) he played under MON before at Leicester City d) I don't have a d to suggest but didn't think it appropriate to end on a c.

Liverpool have also been linked with their former striker who has once again found himself in vogue for England.

So what do you think? On the plus side he might be available for a knockdown price as he is out of contract in the summer, on the minus side would this really be a step forward? Would he take us to the next level because although he does - when fit (WHEN fit) - give a few options to a team, his scoring rate is between 1 in 4 and 1 in 5 goals to games.

Our latest poll asks what you think - yes it is a slow news day!

I would gladly take him for a season or 2, cover for big john, and we all see how we struggle without a big man up front. snap owen up aswell, and that would be a great jan for me. Gabby could learn heaps off the both of them.

Only thing Gabby would learn is how to cash in by feigning injuries and sitting on the treatment table. A good helper for a centre forward/finisher but we haven't got one of those to finish the move off and bury the ball in the back of the net which has got to be the priority. Might help Ash with his diving too!!

Think Owen would be class. I can sort of see the use in Heskey if he is cheap but hardly the next step up is it?!
The Fear
He is the main man for England, that's a fact. If we'd signed him pre-season, we'd have 4-6 points more I reckon. Gives you plenty of options and opens up play for other strikers. Ask Micheal Owen who the best striker he's played with - yes you've guessed it!
tarzan
I really hope this doesn't happen, he's a good player and no doubt if you've got Owen/Robbie Keane/who ever its worth having him but I'd rather we kept Marlon and had Carew as our main big man and put up some money for a goal scorer, Signing Heskey will do absolutely nothing for us and after a year or 2 it will do even less. Even though the links are there I can't see MON going for him, he may make some odd tactical decisions but I doubt he'll ever be looking to play Carew and Heskey together so I think MON will go for a propper striker, someone who is proven in the prem, and someone who we could lure. I reckon it'll be Santa Cruz and I don't think many will complain if he can get back into last seasons form.
PTP
I personally think it would be a step backwards for you if you sign him.......
lincolnblue
I'm not convinced either, but teams don't sell goalscorers. I think our only chance would be to unearth a gem from our excellent scouiting system (sic) like RSC, Adebayor etc.
tarzan
Personally I'd move for Owen, proven goal scorer & experienced just what we need. Also would really show our intent for pushing our great club forward.
Cambs-Villan
Ay, Owen would be a true dream signing. Oh if only
PTP
I think Owen would relish the chance to play at our club with Heskey, they really like each other and play really well together. If Heskey comes in I may be one of the few that is happy, but it may open the door to Owen, for which i think we would all be happy.
young_jonah
agree YJ, with owen now also being linked, I could see the sense in this signing!
The Fear
No thanks. Another centre-forward who you can never rely on to be 100% fit, and enjoy a run of games. He's no better than JC, and wouldn't move to B6 to play second fiddle either.

I say this hoping to be proved wrong young_jonah, but I cant see Owen moving to B6, I really cant.
