Aston Villa - WANTED - A Top Class Striker

Aston Villa - WANTED - A Top Class Striker

Vital Villa asked for your man of the match votes for the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United on Monday night.

Looks like a large 'protest' vote has happend as the winner was Marlon Harewood with 41%!

It really was a night where it was hard to pick anyone who shone although of the players that actually were on the pitch for more than five minutes, (!) Brad Friedel, Luke Young and Martin Laursen faired best, all with 10%.

Other results:

A. Young (5%)
Milner (5%)
Reo-Coker (4%)
Barry (4%)
Agbonlahor (3%)
Carew (3%)
Sidwell (3%)
Shorey (1%)
Cuellar (1%)

Our latest poll asks which striker you would like most in the January transfer window with the choices:

Newcastle United's Michael Owen or Obafemi Martins
Portsmouth's Peter Crouch or Jermain Defoe
Wigan's Emile Heskey or Amir Zaki
Reading's Kevin Doyle
Blackurn's (unvailable!) Santa Cruz
West Ham's Dean Ashton
Ajax's Klass Jan Huntelaar
Barcelona's Thierry Henry

Surely it has to be time for Martin O'Neill to really shoot for the stars and try to bring in a WOW player or two, a world class striker or two being the most important part of the jigsaw puzzle we so lovingly call Aston Villa?! Easier said than done I guess?!

Wow I'm surprised at Martins score, he's shed, he wouldn't do it for us at all, rather play Nige.

Thought he was quality the other night against us though PTP and when fit, often seems to play like that?

Went for Zaki, although Owen wasnt a far 2nd.

Martins is explosive, an absolute monster...much rather him than Owen (a fit Owen waould be great but he's ALWAYS injured). It's between Zaki, Huntelaar and Defoe for me...
05/11/2008 14:44:00
I would like Owen, if NUFC would accept a fee of 12M or less and if he was prepared to settle for a normal wage and not upset the wages scale. If he could escape injury I think he could soon get back to lethel form and be right back in the England frontline again too!

I've always been a fan of Martins so he gets my vote. He was outstanding on Monday night against us and was the main reason we lost - not just because he scored the two goals, but how he inspired the rest of the team.
05/11/2008 16:24:00
Thierry is as good as anyone I have seen live on his day.
05/11/2008 16:39:00
cant believe the support for owen to be honest, he would just cost too much for to little, and way way way to injury prone......Huntelaar record speaks for itself but he would most likely be a target for barca

Huntelaar no contest, Man Utd was after him last season and the top 4 are looking at him all the time, supposed to be worth like 25m or something, if we could get him i think he could be fantastic, he is only 25, his record is one of the best, played for SC Heerenveen and scored 34 goals out of 46 matches, and before that he played at AGOVV and played 35 scoring 26, but at the moment he is playing his trade at Ajax the team we smashed :P and has played 90 games scoring 75 goals, for his country he played 22 for the under 21's and scored 18 out of the 22, and plays for the nartional team playing 18 scoring 10, he is a goal machine and would set us up for the Championships League if we maybe brought in another class defender.
