Young Ashley Delighted

Ashley Young has expressed his delight at securing a new deal with Villa and he's determined to repay the faith shown in him by Martin O'Neill.

The news was recently announced that Ash had signed a new deal, and now speaking on the official site for the first time since signing that deal, you get the impression he's quite happy.

'I am delighted. I am glad the gaffer has offered me the new deal and I'm really pleased to sign it.

'The club is moving in the right direction and I knew it was right for me to pen the new deal.

'The manager has really helped me develop as a player. He brought me to the club and my game has moved on leaps and bounds under his guidance.

'I can only thank him for that and I am looking to repay him for the faith he has shown in me.'

We all know Young is a phenomenal talent, and many fans were getting tetchy about another Barry saga come January or the summer if he kept on having the impact he has had so far, but even though this new 4 contract will not stop that, it leaves us in a very powerful position to tell potential suitors to find the door and ram their tackle in it.

Fantastic that we've got him shackled to the club that little bit more if anyone does come calling for him - even better if he stays all those years to honour it, and then more again to further it. Let's hope he experiences success with Villa.

Great news and also that we are now paying players up to £70k (I think Carew was previously highest paid at £52k per week). Obviosly I think it is a ridiculous amount of money but compared to the £150-160k Lampard, Rio, Terry and Ronaldo are on it does show that our players can achieve all they want on and off the pitch at our club. I am delighted that he has stayed and surely if anyh of the vultures came in for him with him tied to a long contract he must command £20m+. I just wish he could impose himself against the top top sides and torture all fullbacks the way he tortured Corluka and others. I thought he could have Beye all day long on Monday but it wasnt to be!!
