'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Nice One Cyrille MBE

Cyrille Regis has today collected his MBE for services to football from the Queen.

Cyrille, still a sprightly and towering sight at 50 years young, has always been well loved by fans whereever he has gone.

Villans, Boingers and those Wandering folk don't often agree on much, but with the often pointless showering of XBE's from Buckingham Palace over the years, I think we would all agree this one is fully deserved.

Speaking after the event to the Mail, Cyrille said:

'It makes you so proud. It does make you think of all the other people who helped you along the way, family, mentors, friends. It's a very proud moment.'

Most in football, if not the Midlands, will remember Regis from his Albion days, although he states it's only with hindsight that he realises how he and fellow black players were making history.

'History will say that we broke barriers but at the time you just want to play football and stay in the side. Looking back on it there was a whole sea change.

'You understand the impact that your status has and how you can change lives and inspire people purely because of your position.'

Maybe more modern day players need to remember that?

Nice one Cyrille, nice one son. Never thought I'd take to him after his move from The Hawthorns, but he soon won me over.

Batson, Regis, and Cunningham the 'Three Degrees'. Such an important part of that attractive, entertaining West Bromwich Albion side that Ron Atkinson put together.
