Aston Villa Sunday Press Transfer Talk

Aston Villa Sunday Press Transfer Talk

Little bit of transfer gossip, Marlon Harewood is still being linked with an exit although he said yesterday he was happy to stay and fight - (Harewood Willing To Fight) - that will surely change if the following links are correct?

On Saturday the Daily Mirror claimed that Villa were going to try to bring Manchester City's striker Daniel Sturridge to Villa Park as the youngster's contract runs out and he could move on a free. The striker has played for England's Under-17 and Under-19 sides and has also been a target for Chelsea who, it was claimed in the Mirror last August, wanted to make him their new Didier Drogba. High praise indeed!

Meanwhile today, in the News of the World (known worldwide for it's accuracy!), they link us to 19-year-old (20 this week) Kyle Naughton from Sheffield United. The red top claims the right-back is rated at around £6million. The sticking point is the youngster has signed a lengthy contract so the Blades aren't under any pressure to sell him. The paper says: 'The pacy right-back also possesses a useful long throw and is likely to attract bids during the January transfer window' and claim he is 'being chased by a host of Premier League clubs.'

Martin O'Neill apparently watched him play at Bramall Lane last week.

MON linked with two young promising and probably over priced english players? What is the world coming to? Wouldn't mind Sturridge to be honest, ive always been impressed when ive seen him play for Man City.

Certainly need cover for Luke as well as a striker. Still can't believe we didn't snap up Stearman.

Agree with you there adam - Sturridge has looked more than half-decent the few times I've seen him come on for Cuty, and scored a few decent goals too. RB cover in Jan would be a welcome addition - LB should be sorted with the (hopeful) return of Freddy.

The kind of players we should be buying IF....MON can see the real artical at the end of the day. He was right with Ashley. They are young, English (I think). Go for it MON if you feel they are right, because if they are, the money to shell out is not a problem. Bit concerned the media got hold of it.

Sturridge would give us options, a variation on what we have now. I'd also like Kevin Doyle, even though he's rumoured to be signing a new extended deal at Reading. I'm a big JC fan, but you just cant rely on him to play a run of games.

Dont know anything about this Kyle Naughton, he's just a name to me, but we definitely need a back up right full back.
