What Do Villa Have To Do To Get Some Respect?

What do we have to do to get some respect?

I have just finished work in the Middle East. Turned on the TV and was pleased to see the sports round up was beginning on BBC world. I was not pleased for long. After reading the results (they said we beat Blackburn 2-0, but hey, we all make mistakes), they then showed the top of the Premiership league. 3 teams, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. Villa were omitted despite having the same points as Arsenal.

How many times does the media show the top 3 only....never seen it before. Always the top 4 or top 6 if we are lucky.

I wonder what we have done wrong?. Why are we dismissed out of hand. What do we have to do to get some recognition? Even when we won the league in 81, it was unlucky Ipswich that were the better team. In 82, the media view was that we held out against a superior Bayern Munich team.

Even winning trophies got us no respect. Maybe we have to do it 5 years on the trot before we get some credit.

On a more positive note, Fergie showed a little respect today but it is small potatoes compared with what we deserve with our glorious history and clear bright future.

I did the interview on Vital Villa and predicted we would win it. I read most of them and I think I was the only one to predict this. I still have this feeling in my bones! However even if we do, the media will say its - a fluke - a one off - they had the run of the ball etc.

What do we have to do?

Up the Villa

Persoanlly love it. We can just keep sneaking along, without the added media pressue. They can ignore us all season for all I care as long as we keep winning.

simpple earn respect by winning things
kendog
Might I suggest you change your name to Manchester City B Team. Just a suggestion...
Sindbad
Could have earned some respect by beating Chelsea, but they thumped you. Lucky to escape with just the 2-0, I'm thinking.
rjh
move to london.
lerneravfc
I wouldn't worry about it, you have a well balanced side and a great manager. You are the opposite of my side that the media over hypes every season and look at us rock bleeding bottom (though last night was brilliant)...You will finish top 5 but that will be 4th or 5th imo...
woddywoo
I respect you guys, a well run team and well run club. Good owner, good manager, good players. It didn't even cross my mind that people under-estimate you guys, I thought you're well respected in England. But Deano's right, it works in your favour actually.
GoonerLou
Well, not the response I expected. Who the feck are you sinbad. I suspect no one who has commented remembers 80,81,82. woddywoo, thanks for the positive but watch us go. and good luck to Spurs.

Maybe lerneravfc has it right.............if so, that is so sad
dannyvellow
I've almost got used to it after 40 years as a Villan !
Villan57
Villan57, my late Uncle was with me at highbury in 81. he had waited his whole life for the glory (57 he saw).............you still have time for another.................and another.........shhhhhhhhhusssssss, but this is the season!
dannyvellow
Who cares what the media or anyone else think of us. We must first win something and then back it it up on a consistent basis. We have had the opportunities to do this in the past but dodgy doug held us back. Now we are moving forward with a clear agenda. It might not happen this season but consistent improvement will see it happen eventually.

The media only care about Man U, Liverpool or all London teams. Today all SSN wanted to talk about was effin Spurs. Between 9am and 9.20am they showed the goals from their 4-4 with Le Arse TWICE. In that time the Villa goals were not shown - although they did show Blackburn's 90th minute free kick. I always thought it was BBC who ignored us but it would seem Sky do to.

setanta sports news does my head in with their top 4 glorification boo lacks. showed all their goals and not ours today. motd showed the top 4 first again. fair enough if one of those teams plays another top side but i'd rather see a more evenly matched game than chelski vs hull or man utd vs wet spam.
ric112
Adam, Ric, You see my point I think, thanks. Steve, Deadly has gone. I agree, a clear agenda and a swift and soothing breeze runs through everything Villa now. Ric ......WE ARE TOP 4. BBC, SKY and Setanta listen up!
dannyvellow
I have to say I get pretty *****ed off with it as well, I live in London so all of my mates are either Arse, Spurs, Chels, Liv or Man U fans. You can't get away from the fact that most people will support a team because they're at the top, thats just life. But it does seem that they just don't care about anything at all other than top 4 business, they won't rate any player unless he's been linked with a top club. It seems the hundreds of teams below the top 4 in English football are all just there to fill in space and make a bit of background noise to these people. *****ers the lot of em
PTP
Danny, thanks MOTD often show us last too! But dont worry, we will have the last word I bet. Those goons on MOTD haven't got the guts to manage a football team like real men and therefor coin it in in the studios of the BBC.... I mean, who the hell is Alan Hansen. The blokes a class clown.
leelindsay
I would rather Sky Sports actually said LESS about us because they are the bottom feeding scum of the earth who wouldn't know a thing about football even if it came in a pop-up book.
Platypus
rjh, didnt we take 4 points from 2 Chelsea games last season?
NorthcliffeBandit
The respect thing comes both on and off the pitch, the board at Villa Park certainly have the respect of the supporters, they certainly have the attention of the opposition by backing the manager on and off the pitch. They have proved having millions of pounds counts for nothing if you dont have Integrity and we are lucky to have a board with more Integrity than money. The Barry saga sent a clear message to the rest of the footballing world that Villa do things properly or they dont do them. On the pitch consistant performances and trophies will earn Villa the respect you question in the origional post.

We need to consistently produce, provide consistent quality performances, prove that all of our talk of breaking into the elite is not just hot air.
glensider
In truth though, the media has its darlings, and we sadly have to face facts, we're not amongst that little group. Even back in 81 when we won the League Championship, we didn't get the credit that we deserved.
