Club Statement On False Paper Reports

Following false reports in the News of the World that Villa had banned collections for the Poppy appeal, the club have issued a statement. Hopefully the paper will now apologise and make a donation by way of reparation to the Royal British Legion.

The statement reads:

'Villa can confirm that - contrary to newspaper reports - there will be support for the Royal British Legion at the home game with Middlesbrough on Sunday November 9.

The club's charity partner Acorns will hold the collection for both causes - splitting the proceeds 50-50.

The club will, as usual, also have poppies on sale in the club shop.

Villa are also pleased to announce a link-up with HMS Daring enabling sailors from Birmingham's navy ship to wear claret and blue kits in inter-force competitions.

Villa also have special ticket deals for members of the armed forces and have recently set up a British Forces Lions Club.'

I notice the behaviour of the Sunderland fans chucking stuff at Joey Barton received widespread condemnation in the press just like the coin thrown at Harry Redknapp - NOT!!!

The media all too often seems to have a vendetta against all things AVFC. It borders on the pathetic, yet is both irritating and annoying all the same.

Too true godzvilla. The behaviour of the Sunderland crowd received barely a mention. Pity that the club has to respond to these lies, and sadly all too often, the damage is done. There'll be even a few amongst our own that believe the NotW report.
