'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Club Statement On The Idiot In The Crowd

After an idiot at the Pompey match aimed a 50 pence coin into the technical area hitting the assistant referee, the club have released an official statement.

Aston Villa have condemned the idiotic behaviour of the so called 'fan' after assistant referee Phil Sharp was hit above his right eye, causing a small cut.

The club and the FA will conduct an investigation into the event, and will be studying CCTV closely to identify the idiot.

The club have also said they will issue a lifetime ban to any individual found guilty of throwing the coin, and the FA have insisted their investigation will focus on finding the culprit as opposed to punishing the club.

We have a very good record, and we are known as a family club and as a fan I've always been pleased that the club rarely hit the headlines for this sort of behaviour.

It's a game off football, that's it. There are no excuses for this type of behaviour.

Speaking on the official site, Martin O'Neill said:

'It is unacceptable, absolutely unacceptable. It shouldn't be there.

'I turned to the fourth official and he told me there were four minutes of added time and then the next thing you know, the linesman is on the floor after being hit by a coin.

'It is just unacceptable and there's no place for it in the game whatsoever.

'From our own point of view, the club are making good strides. Since the chairman has come in, we have become a real supporter-friendly football club with a really good atmosphere so this is all terribly disappointing. It's just mindless!'

No doubt the d1ckhead who threw it missed as he was probably aiming at our 'Arry. Hang him let alone ban him.
storagematt
Total coward, hope they find him and not only ban him but also take him to court. Some pratt threw a pound coin which hit me last season (as I sit on the front row) and it bloody hurt.... I put the on the lottery but didn't win so that hurt as well! Seriously though, without the refs and linesmen, the game couldn't be held so some people need to grow up, no place for that sort of action anywhere. What a brainless idiot.
The Fear
Note that the normally shy and retiring suspected money launderer and bung taker, "Arry Redknapp" has come out and been mouthing off to the media and giving the fans stick immediately after the incident as if he is in charge.(not that I condone the incident.)
Villan444
Being passionate is one thing...being a utter feckwit is something else...does not belong on a pitch, should be feckin stoned to death.
Blue is the colour
Idiot, whoever it was should never ever be allowed in any football ground again for the rest of their life. Wasnt too happy with the reaction of the Villa fans either to be honest.
joff
Why do people around him not come out and say - I was in seat X and the fella was two over from me therefore was in seat Y. GO through the records and thats it?? Or would that be too easy!!!
deano.avfc
JF. I know that were not too far from the action. There seemed to be a lot of finger pointing from that pr4t Redtw4t, but I did not see that stewards or the police wade into the crowd to arrest anyone. Normally people sitting in the vicinity identify the culprit, but I did not see anyone pointing the finger (apart from 'Arry). Your take on the incident please.

CLOSE THE GROUND - THAT'S WHAT I SAY!
merlin
Merlin's "close the ground" outburst is puerile and stupid. This could happen anywhere. It takes one person to do this. And all football fans must unite and stop it from happening. This is not a time to call for repercussions, but let's stand together and get the toady little ba***rd who did it and sort him out.
Sindbad
It is so disappointing and I really hope the press take the same attitude with regards to it being one little d1ckh3ad and not a reflection on our club. We must be the best run club in the league after what our Chairman has done for and with our supporters.
deano.avfc
Hopefully the culprit will be banned the penny will finally drop. And redknapp can shut up,I saw him pick it up and put it in his pocket the dodgy ********.
lerneravfc
ok Villan444 its clear - from your comments recently - that you 'dont like' HR, and that is fair enough, but i think that his 'mouthing off' was more than justified here mate ti be fair... basically he has said what o'neill has - do you see this as mouthing off? the difference being he used the word 'idiot' a few times, which the tosser that threw the coin is!
pompeyrug
Couldn't make it today but from all reports HR was remonstrating with the fans when its not his place to do so. There is already bad feeling between him and our fans so I think that he was stupid to do so. Saying that, the poor lino could have been worse and noone deserves that including HR. You Pompey fans are a decent bunch and deserve better than him. I should not have changed the serious subject towards Redknapp though.
Villan444
Ban him, take him to court. Simple as. Off topic, We did get a clean sheet though! lol
mtones
i see where arrys coming from it's disgusting when adults bringing small children do stupid stuff then they copy
AVFC08
....there's always that stupid minority.........its so hard to totally eradicate it from football......one of the main reasons is that they do nothing to them when they actually catch them.....
lincolnblue
Sindbad. I think you'll find that Merlin was joking!! As for whoever threw the coin I am sure he will be identified, banned for life and charged by the police for what he did. That ******** has put a stain on the name and reputation of the club and the real fans and deserves everything he's got coming to him.
jonah
I don't care if Harry Redknapp was remonmstrating with the crowd or not, he was obviously the intended target and was justifiably upset. Unless Harry was actually throwing coins into the crowd himself, there is absoloutely no justification for the cowardwho threw the coin to do it. How brve are you, hiding in a crowd of kids and throwing coins at people. People like youshould be subjected tothe full extent of the law you yellow b@$tard. Call yourself a football fan, let alone a villa fan.Ban this pr@tt from every sporting venue in the country, not just football grounds. People like you make me sick!!!!
VILLAMAD
I'm also baffled as to why the people in the crowd around the culprit didn't oust him...bit embarrassing really. I was in the Holte and didn't have clue what was going on!
olafthegreat
Of course those nearby should shop the person responsible, just pass the seat number to the club and let them do the rest.
eastneydave
I do not think he should be banned from Villa Park, or hanged. The punishment should fit the crime. Community service every Saturday afternoon picking up litter in Aston Park or thereabouts, every matchday afternoon, and then be welcomed into Villa Park after the match has ended to continue his duties there. A one year community service and 2 year ban - but after that he should be allowed to return to the games if he so wishes, with a life-time ban waiting for any second offence, however minor. Hope the club have the footage to catch him.
stennyvilla
Excuse me villan 444, why the outburst at Harry. He was the target & cheap shots at him don't excuse the idiot who threw it. Maybe you should aim your abuse at him.
storagematt
Burn him at the stake i say
Pablo1978
what a wast of a good fifty pence, may be the fan was just trying to bump up harrys wages?
Astonian Villan
Hard to believe that this idiot hasn't been named and shamed. Someone out there saw this incident unravel, they had to have done.
glensider
Maybe he will be apprehended at the Blackburn Rovers game. The club, armed with the required information, will have the clown arrested then? Too much to hope for I wonder?
