Lawro Tips Villa To Beat Pompey

Lawro Tips Villa To Beat Pompey

Mark Lawrenson really does love Villa these days, so nice to see the non-moustached one rating the team, although I do so hate it when we start to get tipped to win!

Anyway, on the BBC site Lawro says 2-1 to Villa against Portsmouth this Saturday (3pm kick off, who thought of such a silly time for a football game, surely we should be playing at 5:15pm or Sunday at 4pm?!?!) at Villa Park.

He says: 'Villa will realise that Pompey are one of their rivals for fifth place this season so this will be an interesting match-up. There are not many other teams who have that potential.
Martin O'Neill's side have pace and a good depth in their squad and Portsmouth have been a bit inconsistent on the road.'

As long as Defoe scores and Villa win I'm happy, gotta think about Fantasy as well as real football these days.

Pompey are a very physical team, can't see Carew winning many of our long balls and not sure we have the team to play it around them on the ground without Milner starting, hoping for a draw...........

Good point Defoe is in my fantasy team too. Plus Krancjar but i have a feeling he is injured *note to self, replace Krancjar*. Its gonna be a toughy and i have a feeling we will lose this one 2-1, with Defoe and Crouch bagging the goals. A partnership that could have been ours, if you believe the papers of course.

Depending on who we at Pompey have in our midfield, may tip the balance of the game. It will be tight whichever.

they've played three CBs and wingbacks recently, so we should double up on thier flanks and whip in a few difficult waist high crosses

This dude Lawrenson simply has to be a closet Villan, there can be no other explanation for his continued backing, even in the toughest of games. Not that Pompey falls into that category of course.

Very good comment there NorthcliffeBandit, but you know we wont. We'll continually play high balls that will be met with glee by sol and company. Keep the ball on the ground and we'll beat 'em, high balls into the box, forget it.
