Sorryson, But You Started It!

Sometimes you just have to stop looking back and move on in life. Thomas Sorensen is a case at hand. Yes, he was fairly badly treated at Villa having 'dared' to be slightly outspoken about the manager Martin O'Neill but then, what did he expect? Managers are fragile souls whose ego's and position mean they don't have to take any lip, the decision lies with them who they pick and who they drop. Sorensen muttered a criticism of the boss when Scott Carson was brought in on loan from Liverpool and from that day onwards, his position seemed untenable.

That is now ancient history though surely? The Danish keeper has moved on to Stoke and by all accounts seems in fairly good form. So why talk about it? Well, Sorryson (as some called him, must admit I always thought he was ok, certainly better than Carson his replacement!) has been talking to the Danish media saying that MON wanted to ruin his career.

'It stayed personal for him and had nothing to do with football. This summer it was so crazy and insane that I suddenly understood: my manager will destroy my career. He said to me and to others that he didn’t use me because I just wasn’t good enough but at the same time he didn’t want to let me go to another club. He must really have had a down on me personally, because why would he effectively destroy any chances for me to change clubs?'

Adding: 'I know that Manchester City, Blackburn and Middlesbrough were more or less ready to pick up me, but the course of events were the same. Suddenly I didn’t hear any more from them, nothing happened and I didn’t get an explanation.’’

Hmmm, manager v player and manager wins, hardly a big shock is it? Just ask all those that have come up against Sir Alex Chewalot, there is only ever one winner at a club. Lesson to be learnt maybe Sorensen? Yup, don't bite the hand that feeds via the press... now move along!

Sorensen is a great shot stopper, but doesn't organise his defence how a top keeper should, hence he wasn't good enough. Sorenson should just accept he's better off at a club thay needs a shot stopper rather than a keeoer.

I always felt that Sorensen was harshly treated by MON...Tommy was our No. 1 keeper - a good keeper too imho - but never given a chance by Magic Mart to show what he could do. Also, we should remember Tommy's role in DOL's demise - if the rumours are true, Sorensen played a big role in deposing O'Dreary and, as a consequence, accelerating the Lerner buy-out. Good luck to the guy, I say.

If I go behind my boss's back at work and cross him, lose his trust, then i'd probably expect my career might suffer as a result. No-one to blame but himself. I would agree that he just wasn't good enough.

In this land the carbuncle is King, what do you say to a goalkeeper who dont listen? You sit there and I will use you as an example for the rest of the team, theres a good bloke, now your contracts up you can leave when I let you.

Barry messed with MON but was so good that he couldn't afford to drop him. Tommy was treated harshly and he is much better than Carson, who is coincidentally another sure for the drop this year. I think that both are playng better as soon as they left us, plus Friedel has only kept 1 clean sheet. There is surely something wrong with our GK coach????
Villan444
Many of the points he makes are fair comment. MON's ego simply made it impossible for him to drop Carson and bring back Sorenson, even if it meant losing points.
Saurat
Sorenson is better than Carson, that is all.

I keep seeing comments from both sides in this spat, saying how Sorensen did this or MON did that, but the real truth is that none of us KNOWS anything about this other than what we read in the newspapers. I'm old enough to realise that the only people who really know what goes on behind closed doors are the parties themselves, and that I should keep clear of marital breakdowns ... :o)
BobTheBuilder
MON and Sorenson were lovers. but ever since Carson came in, MON seemed to prefer a keeper who smacks the ball instead of catching and holding it. so you get the picture :D

I thought MONs demotion of Sorryson was great. I hated the number of crap goals he conceeded. An ok shot stopper that could look good on highlights as would make occassional quality saves but never could avoid making howlers. Sorryson moaning about MON not letting him leave mid way through last season was explained to him as MON didn't want to leave us needing Gabor Kiraly on loan again. Good ridance to a bad player with a ***** attitude. His attitude stood in his way of getting back into MONs good books, unlike Barry and Berger.
MONsCABA
Not sure Berger is in MONs goodbooks lol! Agree with BobtheBuilder though that there are only really two people that know what was said and what went on - and I'm not one of them! I do think Sorensen should just shut up and get on with it though. Stop whinging and play football - no one gives a crap

Sorensen is pants, and has been since his first season at Villa, he made as many mistakes as Carson ever did, funny how we all forget. Seems he has found his level though at a team destined to finish 20th. Taylor is better than this clown.
young_jonah
The point about Berger is that he worked his way back in under MON, it proves that players can do this, it's irrelevant that he couldn't stay there and MON booted him out of VP.
MONsCABA
While I personally believe that Thomas was a considerably better performer for us than many were prepared to give him credit for, and I was somewhat surprised at the 'treatment' he received from MON, his constant whining in the media is getting both old and boring now. You've moved on now Thomas, let it drop.
glensider
I agree fully that he was, and still is, a considerably better all round keeper than Carson, but thats all water under the bridge now. Everyone has moved on, or at least they should have done.
