Villa Tipped As Favourites In UEFA Group
As you'd expect, there is lots of UEFA Cup talk about at the moment.
Is this the kiss of death? Martin Jol has told Hamburg's official site that Villa are favourites to win the group. I don't like us being favourites, I'd much rather be the underdogs! The former Spurs man, who is now flying high in the Bundesliga said:
'It’s a nice group, and it should produce some good games. Ajax Amsterdam are a big club, but for me Aston Villa are the favourites to win the group.' Adding, 'Slavia Prague are experienced and they have strengthened, while MSK Zilina continue to be a very compact team, they are second in the Slovakian table at the moment. We,re looking forward to these fixtures.'
Meanwhile Ajax coach Marco van Basten is happy he is facing Villa and Hamburg away from home. Yeah, I bet! 'That is good for us. If you win your home games, you have a fairly good chance to go through.'

He knows what he's doing, does Mr Jol! The name of the game is to talk your opponents up so that the press report it, then the opposition players start to believe they are the dogs xxxxxxx, becoming over-confident and under-prepared for the match. The ONLY measure of who will win this group (or any other competitive scenario) is the scoreline at the final whistle ...
