Chelsea's happily hatted goalkeeper Petr Cech says his team were surprised at the ease of their win over Villa on Sunday.
He told their official site: 'We played out a great game, from the first minute there was only one team on the pitch. Unambiguously, we deserved to win and could have scored even more goals. With regards to the previous encounters with Aston Villa, we expected a very difficult game. Eventually, it was not that difficult, also because we played really well.'
Meanwhile Martin O'Neill admitted Villa were given a footballing lesson by Chelsea. Not sure why our team, with enough international players to know better surely, would need a lesson, especially after being so well taught last season at Old Trafford!?
He told Setanta Sports 'We have got to pick ourselves up, the top four sides have been brilliant for some time, they have Champions League experience and have great players. It is tough to break into that but it won’t stop us trying. This is what it’s all about, what’s the point in settling for anything else other than trying to get there? There is no point, there is no point in competing and playing the game unless you want to be up there.'
Adding, 'It is a lesson to our players, the up and coming players we have who did not perform. They are better than that.'
Back to school then, hopefully our learned friends will pick up the great start to the season and get maximum points from the three forthcoming games v Pompey, Wigan and Blackburn, all beatable but all very good teams in their own right! These are THE teams we have to get points off if we truly do have top four/five pretentions this season.
