Villa In Pot 4 For Uefa Cup Draw

Further explanation of the UEFA Cup draw having seen Vital Pompey's article.

The draw is made on Tuesday 7 October.

As explained earlier each team plays in a group of five both home and away. The top three of each group (8 groups) go through to the knock-out stages and are joined by the Champions League flops (8 teams) leaving 32 teams in the comp. (Yes, I know, good looking, charming AND tops at maths, really unfair mix of talent I have, no wonder you hate me so!)

Right, the draw:

Teams are allocated to one of five pots based on their UEFA rankings. Villa are in pot 4, which is nice. Now concentrate: the draw will consist of one team from each Pot being placed into each group. Teams cannot be drawn with clubs from their own country.

Why are spurs in pot 1?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully we will draw the likes of Ac milan, benfica and valencia,How great would it be to see ashley young going down the wing at the san siro and o`neill jumping up and down on the touch line when we score.Playing against teams like that puts us on the world map,Rather than just being a recognised team in britain.Well done to o`neill and the team for getting us into europe once again.

A pleasure JP ;-)

woah... I guess that means we arn't exactly tipped to do well?
pompeycarpet
Yes, nicely done eastneydave! :o)
The Fear
Easy, 6/7 points should see us through but howcome Spuz avoid all the big boys?
Villan444
Does anyone know when the first games are scheduled for ????????
Villan444
As I said on the other page the ranking system takes into account UEFA and CL performances over the last 5 seasons, so despite some medeocre (and that's being generous!) league form consecutive quarter finals has snuck us into 8th place....thank god
Phartman87
I'd like to see us in a group with Wolfsburg, PSG, Sampdoria and Seville. It wouldn't be a easy group, but we would see where we stand compared to other top european leagues. Our players would get experience in different style of football what they are used to. And still, I think we would see us through even with these clubs against us.

Anyone know much about European football and can give us a best and worst scenario???
deano.avfc
IMO, worst case would be: AC Milan, Stuttgart, Udinese and Wolfsburg. Easiest draw would be: Benfica, Club Brugge, Braga and Zilina.
Oulu Villan (Fin)
I've got a sneaky suspicion we're gonna be drawn with Liege.
Cubos
Jeez, gonna be a tough group !!! Can we get away games somewhere hot please ???
ASPINALL
Bring 'em on!!! We fear no one!!

Win our two home games (easier said than done of course, whoever the opposition), and then pick up at least a point from our two away fixtures, and that would surely be enough to see us qualify from the group stages, and enter the knock-out phase, at which stage, things should get very interesting.
glensider
Hopefully we'll pull in decent crowds for the Villa Park games, particularly if up against established, top quality opposition. Its good to be back playing on the competitive european club stage, and healthy attendances will show our appreciation to RL, MON, and the lads.
