'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Nothing Better Than A Packed Villa Park

John 'The Hulk' Carew has been full of praise for the fans, and doesn't believe there is anything better than a packed Villa Park to roar the boys on.

With Carew's 'Bigger Than Me and You' chant being a popular ditty at the moment it's probably appropriate that Carew takes his turn on the OS to praise up the faithful.

'The fans have been awesome this season and the impact they have made in cheering us on has been incredible.

'They roar us on when we're winning and they get behind us when we need a little bit of help when we're behind - as they did on Saturday against Sunderland!

'There's nothing better than a packed Villa Park cheering us on. The players are going to need all the support they can get this season with Villa striving for success in a number of competitions.

'The fans show their passion so we, the players, can perform on the pitch.'

Carew has been well known as a nomad in footballing circles, more clubs than hot dinners for most of his career, and for some reason just unable to really gel at a football club for any real length of time.

All that seems to have changed since his arrival at Villa Park. He may still be one of our more solitary players, it's actually hard to say when you see him celebrate with the other players on the pitch. He certainly doesn't seem to be nomadish anymore, and hasn't been shy at coming out in the press talking about a new contract extension, or how much he loves the club.

So when you see him playing, celebrating with that monsterous smile, I for one think there is more truth in the following sentance than their usually is when players say similar.

'It's amazing to hear that song they have come up with about me. They are the best fans ever!'

Best fans ever, not a bad way to endear himself to us more is it.

Remember when we swapped baros for him,I was buzzing and when he made his debut against west ham all of a sudden we looked a completely different team straight away. The double swoop for carew and young was the true beginning of the o`neill era,Since then we have never looked back.

great, great video. I think he and Barry get on well. They always have the biggest smiles when they celebrate together. I love this club.

Defenitly villa through and through now, the perfect match for both club and player.I couldnt belive it when we swapped baros for him I think the lyon manager at the time must have been smoking crack.
Mr A Villa
His debut was actually away to Newcastle, he scored a header from a corner but it was incorrectly ruled out for some reason.

got to say it is a place I enjoy visiting - got some good memories!
merlin
merlin, you are on here a little early this week. Concerned about how Carew is going to knock JT about this weekend? :o)
voiceoftheholte
Thought he would get on well in English football, and so it proved but took MON to take the plunge and sign him
Red Wimp
Anyone see him celebrate the baggies result with O'Neill and head straight to the boss when he scored against Sunderland. It seems he found a manager than knows how to deal with him and play him perfectly. Long may it continue. John Carew Carew, he's bigger than me or you, he's gonna score one or two..........

Yes, remember his debut well, up at St James Park. We dominated the game, yet got stuffed 3-1, Ashley Young scoring our goal. A bad start to the Big JC era, but things have only gone one way since.

Agree with JC about the atmosphere created at a packed Villa Park. I just wish we could pack it out more often.
