The Goalscoring Lottery

The Goalscoring Lottery

Nigel Hokey-Cokey believes Villa are dangerous going forward, simply because you never know who might score next.

Nige has now got two in two after going without a goal in the league since Dec 06 - ok his goal against Lovech can hardly be considered a league goal, but bear with me here - and with Petrov and Barry getting back on the scoresheets aswell, our need for an out and out 20+ striker a season looks like it can wait till January without us really suffering. Afterall when nobody else can score, Laursen usually jumps in to save the day.

Speaking on the official site, after the match NRC said:

'Gareth and Stiliyan did brilliantly against Tottenham on Monday and they continued their form in the UEFA Cup match.

'It was great for three midfielders to score the goals.

'It was an enormous effort. It is so important to share the goals around. It takes the pressure off us all.

'We haven't got a specific scorer we rely on to get goals. That shows the ability and the talent that we have in the squad to get goals from all over the pitch.'

With midfielders and defenders finding the net regularly, Hokey-Cokey is right, it does take the pressure off the strikers....but you have to say if we could've pulled off the signing of Defoe, Keane or even Owen with his injury record,
how much better placed would we be.

Our Nige is fast becoming a penalty-box predator. The slightest sniff of a half-chance, and he's in for the kill. Clearly just another string to his bow. No doubt about it though, he's playing very well at this moment in time, definitely doing the business.
