What do we actually know about this side? Not alot.
Litex Lovech won the Bulgarian equivalent of the FA Cup back in May and are one of the countries strongest sides.
Looking at the forums and speaking to work colleagues it soon became obvious that most if not all Villa fans are expecting a big win, scores ranging from 3-0 to 6-0, in fact. I am starting to wonder if I may be the only fan who always feels a little worried going into these matches.
Who could forget the shock first round exit to NK Varteks in 2001. We had just won the Intertoto Cup, sound familiar? And before people claim our team is better now, lets not forget that our team at back then consisted of many top players including Juan Pablo Angel, Olof Mellberg and George Boateng.
Although we are on good form at the moment and Martin O'Neill is a top manager, this is a game that should not be taken lightly. We need to show Lovech some respect and take this game seriously.
Curtis Davies spoke to the Official Website - 'I am really looking forward to the game and I suppose you could class it as the start of the competition because it's the first round proper. It's an interesting one because, Litex are something of an unknown quantity. We don't know the team like we would Manchester United or Barcelona. People may say that playing a smaller team would be better than playing a world-class side but sometimes it's worse'.
I know fans will always be expectant going into these types of games, but as long as the players prepare for it like they would any Premiership Club then we should be alright.
Good Luck to the lads, a draw would be a good result to take into the Home leg, but a win would still be nice.
