'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Barry's Family Fued Is Spurred On

See what I did with the title there, I'm obsessed with them today. Anyway Barry's two brothers follow Spurs and he's looking forward to grabbing the bragging rights again this season.

Speaking on the official site, Barry revealed that he took a bit of stick from those he shares DNA with when back in 2006 his curling right footed shot denied Spurs all 3 points.

'There was plenty of banter in the Barry household after that game.

'My brothers were definitely calling me a few names after my goal. To be honest, they were delighted that I scored a great goal - although secretly I think they were annoyed at me denying Spurs the victory.

'The goal in question was definitely the best one I have scored for Villa. I can't remember too many as good as that.'

Barry also spoke about following Spurs back in the days of Gazza when he lived down south.

'With me living down south when I was younger, the thing was to support a London club. Spurs was the one that two of my older brothers supported so I followed their lead.

'I loved the exciting times at Spurs when Gazza and Gary Lineker were at the top of their game. They were two of the biggest names in the English game at the time and they were both plying their trade at White Hart Lane.

'The FA Cup semi-final of 1991 was a game that definitely stands out in my memory. Paul Gascoigne's free-kick was sensational and the game itself was superb. They weren't expected to beat Arsenal so to get them off to a cracking start with that goal was great.

'The only disappointment was the injury to Gazza in the final. It was an FA Cup win for the club though, so that was the main thing.

'I still have family and friends who support Spurs. My brothers will definitely be up for the game - although I hope they will show loyalty to family!'

Would that be the final where Gazza found out that Garry Parker's chest was far stronger than his leg?

I'm from a boring family, all 100% Villans, but I often wonder how it is when football can throw up inter-family rivalries, brother against brother so as to speak, a la the American Civil War!!!!!!

Do know a family where the mom and dad are Villans, season ticket holders, yet the two sons, both 'grown-up' now, are Villa and Blues supporters. Wierd me thinks.
