'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Morley Tips Villa For Cup Glory

In an interview with the Official Site, Tony Morley revealed that he believes Villa have all the right ingredients to win a cup this season.

Speaking the Official Site he said - 'I think we have a great chance of doing well in the UEFA Cup. We've got a good squad and we have players who can hurt teams. We have people who can turn it on. There are some fantastic teams in the competition but I see no reason why we can't do well'.

With AC Milan in the competition, as well as the British clubs it is never going to be easy but Martin O'Neill and most of the squad have played in the latter rounds of UEFA Cup, so why not eh?

He continued - 'The lads will enjoy pushing on in Europe - it really challenges you as a player. They will see a different style of play, a lot of teams will play possession football which a lot of our lads won't be used to'.

The beauty of European football is the different styles, i hope that it is not a shock to the younger lads.

'There is nothing better than a European night match at Villa Park. If you can't get yourself up for that, you shouldn't be playing the game. The supporters will love it too because the atmosphere is fantastic'.

I hope that the fans get behind the club this season in the European games, we didn't exactly sell out in the FH Hafnarfjordur game, did we?

'I fancy us in all of the cups this season - I think we're a good cup side. On our day we can beat anyone. Let's put it into perspective - we are a phenomenal club. The new owners have worked wonders behind the scenes and the feel-good factor is amazing'.

I think we would all agree with that statement, there is a real sense of believe at the club at the moment, even good old Tony has noticed!!

'The change in the past couple of years is unbelievable. It must be an absolute pleasure to work and play for Aston Villa now'.

Can't beat playing for them in a European Cup Final though, surely?

He finished by saying:-

'They have a new training ground and a pitch there that is an exact replica of Villa Park. If a young player went there and had a look around, he'd think 'where's better than this?' It's all set up for success. We also have a great stadium and superb support. It must be a privilege to put on that shirt every week because the club is buzzing.'

What we will of course all notice about this interview is how Morley says 'we' and 'us', he is still very much part of the club.

Will we win one of the competitions this season? I hope so.

I just love the way our Tony still talks about 'us' all those years down the line.

Tony's comments are good to read, but without wishing to pour a dampener on anything, cup success in any knock-out competition is often down to the luck of the draw. A relatively kind draw in whatever tournament would certainly help our cause. Fingers crossed.
