Why Not Go For Freebie Ronaldo?!!

We need a striker right? Why not go for Freebie Ronaldo!!!

I'm a massive fan of the villa I have followed them since I was yay big, and as we are now in this exciting phase where we are on the cusp of greatest I think it's time we think very big.

Now I know he has had his injury problems Mr Ronaldo and is still recovering from a serious injury but we need a proven goal scorer to add to the squad right?

Well this guy on his day is a proven goal scorer at any level and it amazes me that this guy is still a free agent has everyone forgotten about him?

Why not give this guy a 2 year contract with us so he can prove his fitness and put any gremlins to bed, even if he was used sparingly this guy is pure class and with Martin O'Neils legendary motivational skills imagine what he could do for us, even better imagine what it would be like for the likes of Gabby, Ashley and all the young attacking players at villa to have none other than the legendary Ronaldo being there mentor!!

I must not be the only one that thinks this.

What does everyone else think, we need to get the message to Martin to at least attempt to sign this legend of the game up, and maybe Mr Fear can use his influence with the likes of Mr Lerner and co to get him to VP!

I'm afraid he is on his way to us.

I've talked about this on the forum before. Why not indeed?

I'd say a seinsbile enough reason is that his wage demands are astronomic, and relative to what he can bring to the club, I don't think he'll be worth it. I mean, we've got the Hare, right? Seriously, the amount that he'd be asking, and the unrest that could potentially cause in the dressing room could be dangerous, but, having said that, Mr O'Niell's been fond of signing the odd player in the twighlight of their career, hasn't he.

If he wasn't injured when he came he would soon pick an injury up from somewhere. The pace is too much for him and not to mention the weather. 6-8 years ago he would have torn the prem apart.

He's too old, too slow, too fat and too *****! Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

I was saying this the other day on the debate - I would love to see him at Villa Park. He is one of my all time favourite players and despite his problems (weight, injuries and transexual hookers) he is still an out and out goal machine, even at Milan his goals to games ratio was very impressive. It wont happen though, 1) because we wouldnt pay his wages and 2) I dont think he would want to come to Birmingham, he is a bit of a playboy after all and probably happy to play out his remaining couple of years in the sun, without having to really challenge himself.

He'd flop like Sheva for Chelsea, except a lot worse. As 444 said above, the pace of this league would destroy him, especially since he's barely played recently.

I recall saying the same thing about the other stand out striker of that generation - Patrick Kluivert. Truth is, if he was up to the job then he wouldn't be available.

10/09/2008 09:44:00

Patrick kluivert's form dipped way before he came to England. The thing is with Ronaldo, he's never stopped scoring goals. I'd have loved to see him at VP but I can't see it happening for the same reasons Tez said... He's up there as one of my all time fav players but he's not the kind of player that MON would bring to us. Even given his weight/fitness/wages, he'd still be an excellent short term signing for us.

Typical big name syndrome from football fans, why not sign pele?He maybe old now but you never lose it,if he could get himself fit he would be great.RONALDO IS A BLOB.

LOL lerneravfc, why not sign Pele?
10/09/2008 10:26:00

It may be a bit big name syndrome but there are reasons behind it apart from that. 1) We are doown a striker I dont think anyone would disagree with this. 2) As he is a free agent he can still join despite the window closing. 3) He is an natural goal scorer and I dont think his age will affect that he knows where the net is and I have no doubt he could get at least match gabby this season. He is outta shape and would need some work but I think he would be worth a punt even if just for the shirt sales and a bit of media hype.

Although he would raise a few eyebrows and cause plenty of debate if he came in, i must stress that MON dont like big name players. Simple, he wants a team of hard working individuals, and is not too keen on flair players or Luxery as some might say. Ok so Ashley is flair but he still puts in the work too. Ronaldo like Henry could help attract other big name players but under MON, we will never see this type of player. Besides as many have said above, he is more than likely past it now anyway. BUT, i wouldnt mind seeing him in a Villa shirt, 99.99999999999999999% sure it will never happen though.

Even tho he is old, fat and looks like goofy even if he played 10 games for us, he'd do a job, but i was leaning more to the mentoring side of the game, imagine if your gabby or delfouneso and every day you get to go to training and learn off one of the greats of the game, it would only do them good. If we got 10 great games out of him and 10 average ones he is worth a punt, but at the end of the day it all depends what he wants out of the rest of his career however long it maybe.

yeah matt365, he could mentor our kids on 1) how to eat 10 pies in the space of 3 minutes. 2) how to sit on a beach with his fat gut hanging over his speedos. 3) how to pick up and pay for sexual favours from cheap hussies of mixed gender.

yesterday; Appiah recently negotiated his release from Turkish side Fenerbache last month in order to attain his free agent status. and now has a whole host of clubs lining up for his services, including former club Juventus, Udinese, Arsenal, West Ham United, Portsmouth, Bayern Munich and Schalke. "By the close of the week, I will see where I am going to play my club football," he told

We wont go for Appiah we have enough CM, he is a quality player though and would probably get into our 1st team when fit. When you have names such as Arsenal Juventus and Munich linked however we all no we havent got a chance at all.

Ronaldo has never needed to be fit to score, he's lazy and only runs a couple of times a match, but when he does decide to move, things happen and goals are scored. In the 2002 world cup he only ran twice and finished with 8 goals and the golden boot. He has got to be worth a punt. at only 31 a 2 year deal would appeal to both parties and a good portion of his wages would be covered by the commercial interest he would create.

Its worth noting that we have been linked with a 36 year old henrik larsson and a useless 30 year old emile heskey, I would have Ronaldo over those two hands down.

Exactly tez id have him over those 2 any day more to the point the guy played 16 times last year and scored 9 goals, over his carerr his scored 228 goals in 307 and 67 for brazil in 104 appearances, even if he takes the hare's role he would be quality, last 20 mintues or so, of course you dont tell him he would be a super sub tho lol.

The guys without doubt my fave striker of the 90's when i was growing up. When he was younger he was untouchable. Quick as f***, full of skill and a deadly finish. It would be a dream come true if he pulled on the claret and blue. Like everyone said though, he's not the same player anymore so for that reason i think it would be a bad move. Shame he's such a fat useless c*** now. The blokes a legend

If we were to go down the road of signing superstars past their peak i think that Hernan Crespo who got released at the end of last season would probbably be a better bet but 1.were never goin to pay the wages and 2.there never goin to want to live in Brum.

Overweight problems, past his best, no, way past his best, playboy lifestyle, thanks but no thanks. He's one of the very last strikers I should think that we need to be looking at, not that MON would be. I'd prefer Dion Dublin back in the fold.

Even in the fullness and wellness of health, could you imagine him turning up on a cold, wet windy Novembers afternoon at Villa Park? I sure cant. I'd rather have Tony Hateley back.

He would certainly put us even more on the European and World map, but he would upset our wages apple cart, and its doubtfull if he would really be better than John Carew. Just like teams who got George Best in the Twilight years of his career. Its probably not wort h it!

Good point there villa_de, one that shouldn't be overlooked. The guy would want a very hefty remuneration package, something that could very easily cause dissent in the dressing room. No, this would never happen in a million years.
