Liverpool Shock Draw Shows Belief

Liverpool Shock Draw Shows Belief

Martin O'Neill believes the fact that many fans were disappointed by our draw against defensive Liverpool shows how far the club have come and the levels of optimism that now surround the club.

Speaking on the official site, O'Neill stated that he was looking forward to the rest of the season and he loved the 'mood' change that has occurred over the past few years.

'I am looking forward to the rest of the season with great optimism.

'There's been a change of mood and expectation at this football club and that's great.

'I liked the fact against Liverpool that there was a tinge of disappointment that we didn't beat them.

'That was a great thing - that's where we are.

'As James Milner said after he signed, there have been great strides since he was last here.

'Liverpool, even by their own admission, were hanging on in the last 15 minutes of the game. That's certainly a positive sign.

'While you can't make any big statements after three games, things are certainly upbeat.'

Now to beat the rest of them up.

glad all this barry nonsense is over for a while cause i've always liked villa, their fans and their manager. we were outplayed for a sizeable portion of that game although in fairness don't think we've really started. all the best for rest of the season til anfield at least. could really do with your lot taking points over some of the other big teams as well and i'm sure you will

Many positives to take from it. We looked like we could win it! Even Liverpool admitting hanging on in the last 15 minutes. Keeping a clean sheet, even before Cuellar comes in and Shorey, Luke Young and Curtis Davis are all still settling in. I think the back 4 plus Friedel did us proud! Even if Gerrard or Torres weren't playing, the full Liverpool defense was, and we certainly created them many problems! So although at first we were disappointed not to beat them, I agree with Martin, that just shows how far we have come!

It was still a point gained for Liverpool and 2 lost for Villa. Torres coming off when we were on top of them was the worst thing that could've happened. Straight away they shut up shop for the draw, never seen a back 4 stay so far back!

But let's be realistic, this wasn't so much about the points was it? It was about teaching Liverpool a lesson.

Well said V-i-C...maybe we'll teach them a little better at Anfield - that would be sweet. I'm interested to see how Liverpool do this season though if I'm honest, they look like a team left lacking when Gerrard isn't in the team.
