Gardner Gives Pearce A Headache

Craig Gardner has withdrawn from Friday's U-21 squad after suffering a tight hamstring.

Friday's match sees Pearce's U-21 charges take on Portugal in the Group 3 qualifying game for the European Championships.

Whilst Gabby and Milner continue to push for a starting line up for the 7.45pm match at Wembley, Craig has headed home for a bit of a rest.

The move is described as 'a precautionary measure' and the official site hasn't gone over the top in suggesting he will play no part in our upcoming matches, so fingers crossed a bit of stretching will have him back as new.

And sooner rather than later.

Nice to see Craig actaully getting a chance to play centre midfield after last season. By far his best position and he should hopefully shine for us this season in europe.

Agree son_of_cher, I'm expecting big things from young Craig this season. He's a very talented player, and while he has a fight on his hands to break into Marts starting line-up, once he's in, he'll take some shifting.

I didn't think that James Milner was still eligible for Stuart Pearces under 21 side? Good luck to Gabby though, and of course to James if he is involved.

Good that he's withdrawn. He needs to be properly fit for England and for Villa. Better safe than sorry.

There are allowed to play a couple of over age players. Should be the called under 21's and a couple of friends really.

Maybe Osbourne could be given the chance to replace him?

Thanks Gordonsleftboot for putting me right on that issue. So we've got both James and Gabby to cheer, thats good, makes it more interesting. Pearce has got a decent little team there.
