'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Reo-Coker Thanks Fans

Nigel Reo-Coker has thanked the Claret and Blue faithful for being more than a 12th man during our recent match against Liverpool.

Aswell as thanking the fans for a blistering atmosphere and permanently being being the team as they tried to wear down a Liverpool who had come for a point long before the Torres injury, he also says the performance by the squad - I would say most, but not all - is exactly the level of commitment that as fans we should expect from the team, because it's what they are aiming for.

Speaking on the official site, Hokey-Cokey said:

'We can build on that performance. It's the level we are trying to get to. There wasn't much in it. I think we had the better chances and on another day we could have taken three points.

'It's a top four team and we want to be showing what we've got against these sides.

'We are trying to break into that bracket. They are important games to show how far we have come. I think we did that against Liverpool.

And of course he's right, we need to be setting our stall out against the so called Big 4 and yes we were unlucky, on another day we could've gleaned all 3 points.

We were certainly not really at the races in attack but that'll be going over old ground at this point.

Lets lighten the mood, speaking on the fans he added:

'The Villa Park atmosphere was tremendous. All credit to the fans. The energy they gave us from their passion and commitment was fantastic.

'It was an electric atmosphere and we knew we couldn't let the supporters or ourselves down. We wanted to prove ourselves against top, world-class players and I thought we more than held our own.

'We have started well and set our standards. It is for us to maintain those now. It's imperative to start the season well and we've done that.

'We've got some big and important games now and we're looking forward to it.'

So are the fans Hokey, whilst others fall away and Man City won't really be challenging I suspect until January, maybe next summer, this is the perfect opportunity for us to make a real run and make strides of improvement.

If Gabby plays more Man City than Stoke and Liverpool and our defence continues with the form of Liverpool and not Stoke then Top 4 could be snuck. Top 5 is very attainable.

We want it, O'Neill does and Randy most certainly does. How much do the players want it - it's in their hands.

Anyone else noticed in that photo...that our captain for whatever game it was...put his armband on upside down?!

Was louder than normal on Sunday and nice to hear. Maybe players like Nige only play well when they can hear the fans. P.S. Nice to see Benitez do as he was told as he cowered away back into the dugout.

Felt the team did well at the weekend, and loved the atmosphere on Saturday during the first half, if the team had managed to put us ahead, i think we would have lifted the roof off of all four stands!!!

murph...no, this picture is only horizontally flipped. Nigel is wearing it on his right hand and correctly. vital villan...you should correct it, it is only few clicks in Irfan or Photoshop...

A bit off-topic, but does anyone else think Reo-Coker looks more than a little gay in his intro video when the team is being announced?
Mayo_12
And we in turn thank Nigel for his stirring performance, arguably his best showing in a Villa shirt. A definite and well deserved, 'Man Of The Match' effort.

The atmosphere definitely was electric, and it was good to be a part of it. As young_jonah so rightly says, a Villa goal and the place would have took off.

Reo-Coker = great bunch of lads

Wanting to blow my own trumpet, I was the big mouth who started, "you're just a fat Spanish waiter" at the start of the game, which went quite well. Unfortunately I wasn't overkeen on the next song to Fat Rafa, as I had my 12 year old daughter next to me. The noise at times was good, and would have been louder if we had managed to sell all of our tickets. Maybe though we can sell out when there is a big game!!!!!! Sorry I forgot, nobody was concerned about not being able to sell out against Man Citeh because everbody was on holiday and we hadn't signed Joe Cole!!!! But it would be Ok because the Liverpool game would definitely be massively over subscribed!!!! Appears not. I know I keep banging in on about it, but it is no good sweeping the issue under the carpet. Not being able to sell out Sundays game should be a massive concern to everybody at the club. I know that pubs around Brum were full of 'supposed' Villa fans who spent more on beer watching the game than it would have cost for the price of a match ticket. If we cannot sell out for that game why would Randy even contemplate extending the ground to 50,000+ (which he is committed to because of our obligations to the Olympics)??

Lets hope MON doesnt stay with this idea to put him at right back...
