Villa's Man Of The Match v Liverpool

Vital Villa, in a poll suggested by Spanked? Not Us (aka Vital Villan) asked for your man of the match predictions against Liverpool.

The clear winner was the much maligned Nigel Hokey-Cokey with 64%

Martin Laursen was next with 11%. Must admit, although I think NRC was the man of the match, Laursen was that far behind him!

That left:

Petrov (9%)
Friedel (7%)
Davies (6%)
Barry (2%)
Milner (1%)
A Young (0%)
Carew (0%)
Agbonlahor (0%)
Gardner (0%)
Shorey (0%)
L Young (0%)

Great energy and some nice tackles and runs etc BUT where does he fit into the team. Who will we drop for him. Surely not Petrov who is playing his best football for years and definitelly not GB. So does this mean he will play instead of Milner or our specialized right back. No and I bloody well hope not after the wait for them. If we play 5 across the middle big John will be on his own ( which he was on Sunday due to Gabby's absence.) Rooney is the same, is he a forward or a midfielder???? Back to Nige, a couple of times he was given the ball by Curtis and just passed the ball back to Friedel from the halfway line. Can understand if he was under pressure but we all saw Liverpool were happy to sit back and play on the counter attack and he had all the time in the world to turn.
Villan444
Glad to see him get this vote. I think he has been much better than he has been given credit for but agree with Villan444 - I'm not sure where he is going to fit in. For me Barry has had his role changed to a Sidwell type role. If Sidwell is going to play and Barry too, where does NRC fit in? Unless Barry goes to lb, but what a waste then. So many good players now, but no decent striker.

Laursen did well but how reo or petrov didn`t get motm on the day was beyond me,That was reo-cokers best game in a villa shirt,Maybe he is turning into a good right winger. The team will and should stay as it id for now,The likes of sidwell and milner have to earn their place.
lerneravfc
Reo did play very well defensively but I'm with 444; he does pass it back or sideways a lot. Right at the end when we were chasing the game he passed it all the way back to Friedel much to the irritation of most of the crowd. It's almost as if he isn't confident enough in his own ability to take people on yet when he does - like in his mazey run down the right on Sunday and a couple of times against Citeh - he's shown he can do it. He'll never be an Ashley Young or a James Milner but he does bring something to the team. I'm just not sure where he fits now though...

reo did great but he cant keep playing on the right!!!
NorthcliffeBandit
Good performance, lets hope he can keep it up and not go back to his usual self!!!!
young_jonah
wad are u guys on about? MON likes to play players out of position. noone is gonna replace NRC. NRC is gonna replace Gabby to partner Carew in attack :D
Gruck
Good call Gruck. He can't shoot but at least he looks interested unlike Gabby who is more interested on starting up a five-a-side team (all with different mothers) of his offspring.
Villan444
Great perfromance by NRC. Like a few others have already said, I don't quite know where he fits in to the team - he's definately not a winger, take note MON - but at least when he does play he plays with his heart on his sleeve and gives his all and then some to the cause.
Mayo_12
The much maligned NRC turned in a superb performance, arguably his best showing in a Villa shirt, and he certainly gave MON a poser for the Tottenham game. Competition for places is keeping the lads fully on their toes, and that of course is how it should be.
glensider
I thought that Curtis Davies had another very strong performance. Here again, where does Carlos Cuellar fit in? Its been a few seasons since we've had competition for places like this, pity we havent got competition up front with our strikers.
glensider
Isn't it a nice luxury to have all these quality players instead of the team picking itself? As far as strikers go everyone seems to forget that James Milner can play up front (He did and scored against Cov last week for NUFC). Plus I think Nathan Defouneso will start pushing for a place soon. He just needs his first Prem goal to go in and his confidence will rocket. I am SO excited about this season and any Villa fan who isn't needs to find a new team or have their head examined (or both).
Adam Deuce
Good posts GS, this is how it should be, and although some have left the club, barring Mellberg, none really had a chance of pushing for a starting place.
young_jonah
He played well and fair play to Nige he always has good things to say about the club and the manager and hasn't moaned about being played out of posistion. As with petrov i think the competion for places we now have as bought there game on.
