Vital Villan: Martin O'Neill believes that today's draw against Liverpool was a fair result for both teams. Speaking on the official site after the match, O'Neill knows full well in terms of the standards we set ourselves in attack, today we didn't turn up. We didn't create enough, take our chances nor could we break down a Liverpool side who seemed hesitant to try for anything other than a point. Whether this was by design, or simply given how we started the match they choose to sit back knowing we would obliterate them if given a decent shot at counter attacking I don't know. 'I told the players at half-time that if we kept a clean sheet, we would go on to win the game. I didn't think, regardless of how good a side Liverpool are, that they could keep us at bay for the full 90 minutes. Martin O'Neill's full post match reaction: A Fair Result Is The Managers Verdict
QPR boss Iain Dowie says he is looking forward to going head to head with Villa in the 3rd round Carling Cup tie. He told the qpr official site: 'I am a great admirer of Martin O'Neill. I know him from working as a TV pundit with him during the World Cup. He's a great football man, and a terrific Manager. We know it's going to be a tough test at Villa Park, but we'll be going there with a strong squad of players. The teams I have put out in the opening two rounds against Swindon and Carlisle is testament to how seriously I take this competition. I am really looking forward to this challenge. I am sure Martin won't be doing me any favours, but I can't wait to lock horns with him.'
Villa will face QPR in the Carling Cup on Wednesday 24 September. Kick off 7:45pm
Reports are still linking us with West Ham striker Dean Ashton. They claim that we've already had a bid turned down but that we'll return and will pay good money to secure the 24-year-olds signature. Others are linking us still with Reading striker Kevin Doyle who scored a hat trick for the Royals this weekend.
Villa are also still being linked with Belgian Standard Liege midfielder Marouane Fellaini who is rated at around £10million. The 20-year-old is also said to be interesting Spurs.

Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry who plays for Midlands club Aston Villa at Villa Park for Aston Villa has been named in the England squad for the world cup qualifiers against Adorra and (gulp) Croatia. Fabio Capello strangely hasn't called up Ashley Young and (rightly in my humble opinion as he isn't ready yet) Gabby Agbonlahor also misses out. Full squad: Click Here
Vital Villan: Speaking prior to the draw with Liverpool, Gareth Barry has set his sights on having an extended run in the UEFA Cup: Barry Targets Euro Glory
Curtis Davies told AVTV online the team were happy with keeping a clean sheet. 'The clean sheet is a massive bonus. We haven't worked well as a defensive unit all season - but we made up for it against Liverpool. We were spot on. They really did not have many chances. It doesn't matter if it's Liverpool, Manchester United or Hull, we'll be happy with a clean sheet.'
The ever improving Stiliyan Petrov said Villa proved against Liverpool that we can now compete, speaking to avtv he said: 'The mood is the dressing room was good after the game. If we had taken our chances, I think we would have won the game. John, Gabby and Curtis all had chances to score and my volley wasn't too far away either. I think we matched Liverpool. They are challenging to get into the top four and the Champions League and I think we more than held our own against them. We played well, we moved the ball very well and we were well organised.' Adding about Gareth Barry: 'We're all delighted for Gareth too. People don't realise how difficult it has been for him and his family. He showed exactly why Rafa Benitez wants him so badly. He's a top quality midfielder. We'd rather have him playing for us than against him.'
