Tick Tock - Last Villa Transfer Press Talk

Tick Tock - Last Villa Transfer Press Talk

Reports are still linking us with West Ham striker Dean Ashton. They claim that we've already had a bid turned down but that we'll return and will pay good money to secure the 24-year-olds signature.

Others are linking us still with Reading striker Kevin Doyle who scored a hat trick for the Royals this weekend. The 24-year-old was asked after the game and admitted he will be happy when the transfer window closes. 'I`ll be glad when the window shuts because the whole thing is mentally tiring. You hear so many different things for three months. Will I stay at Reading? I don`t know. It`s difficult to predict, but stranger things have happened.' Adding, 'I don`t know about this hat-trick adding more money to my transfer value, but I`ve certainly got my reputation back because the last five or six months haven`t been great for me. But whatever happens, I`ll be glad when it`s over.'

Deportivo are claiming Newcastle United are are about to sign their 22-year-old striker Xisco. One report claims the Spanish U-21 international was at one point a target for Villa.

Villa are also still being linked with Belgian Standard Liege midfielder Marouane Fellaini who is rated at around £10million. The 20-year-old is also said to be interesting Spurs.

I must admit I'd not be surprised if we ended up buying someone we've not been linked with, would be nice to 'ace' the press!!!

can we just have a decent striker please? It would be a great shame to have a great defence & midfield and consistent scorer.

We all know MON tends to have something up his sleeve for deadline day, and he has as much as said we'll be buying someone. Ashton would be a coup and a half, but I'd be surprised if that went through.

Would Doyle be so bad when you look at the way Gabby played yesterday? At least he'd provide an option and put some pressure on Gabs. Ashton would def be preferable though, and I think WHam might well sell for the right price - come on MON!!

Right now i'd have Dion Dublin back up front, grab those little opportunities and flick ons, a fox in the box is what we need!

Ashton would be gr8 signing. Are WH that desperate for cash? Would put them in real trouble if they let him go. Would normally be waiting for a couple of last minute bench warmers but MON seems to resemble a WAG on Oxford St he just can't stop splashing the cash.

I don't think WH are in need of selling, but they did have a large squad, with a lot of injuries and a really high wage bill... so they probably needed to bring the bill down. I don't think that will matter if they have 15m waved under their noses for a player they paid less than half that for.

Sorry jumped the gun a little he is in talks with WHAM according to sky sports, either way its hardly cutting the wage bill as he wont come cheap.
