Villa Bidding For Hammers Dean Ashton?

Has Villa boss Martin O'Neill taken leave of his senses? The man has gone shopping mad!!!!!!!!!

Villa today are being linked with West Ham and England striker Dean Ashton Reports, are claiming Villa have bid in the region of £12million for the 24-year-old forward.

Could be a great signing, he is young and still learning but with our supply I am sure he could improve on an already 1 goal in 3 games record.

The Daily Mirror say we'll go for him after missing out on Blackburn's Rogque Santa Cruz. Ashton would certainly fit in with the mainly young English players vibe at the club and who knows, this striker could grow into a real Alan Shearer type, he certainly has the physical presence and goal poaching ability.

Ashton has already got off to a flying start this year with goals in pre-season and a brace in the Hammers first game v Wigan.

Only stumbling block will be will West Ham really want to sell their star striker, especially when he signed a new contract only last May.

So come on Dean, swap the pink and the blues for the real claret and blues!

The Times suggest we could be lining up a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Peguy Luyindula.

I doubt we will get him but if we do we will keep him fit with our facilities and liverpool and arsenal can move over.

This would be a GREAT signing, but I really can't see West Ham selling him. The squad is really taking shape (the Milner signing was crucial to the balance), but as proved by Marlon's performance the other night we are in need of a quality striker. Unfortunately, Marlon is only an 'impact' player IMO. If Gabby or JC got injured we would be in the sxxt. Also, now Maloney has gone do we need cover for Ashley? Milner gives us the option of playing 4-5-1 away from home with his versatility, as well as providing natural with in a 4-4-2

Getting Ashton would be another quality coup for us, but it'll be interesting to see whether we can get something done for big money like that in the space of 2 days. The contract issue I don't think is a biggie - Milner only signed a new 4-year deal with Newcastle last year. One sticking point with me, is he injury prone or just unlucky?

GET HIM. I'm wetting my pants at the thought of Ashton in our team alongside Carew/Gabby with Young, Milner, Barry all bombing forward!

We only have 2.5 strikers at the moment. Unfortunately Marlon is only half a player because he can't start a game and produce. Maloney was never an out and out striker anyway. Losing big John would mean that Laursen is the next best scorer and we all know that he (Carew) likes a wander over to the bench at the slightest knock. The evil money spending MON replacement from a parallel universe needs to break our new transfer record again to get a top striker and put the cherry on the icing of our team. As long as he doesn't grow a goatee ala Rafa to go with his new Colleen McLaughlin spendaholic lifestyle ;-D

Cant see it happening. Why would West Ham offload him so close to the end of the transfer window, giving themselves no time to bring in a replacement? Interesting rumour, if indeed its true, but I cant see us getting any joy out of this one. Surely they'd be looking for more than 12m too?

Who would have thought in the dark days of Ellis (and O'Somebody shoot me before i sign another Jumper x 2 player) that we'd have signed such an awesome bunch of players! Am am absolutely over the moon about the quantity and quality that Mon and Randy have brought in. And in the Gregory spirit of mostly British. SUPERB! we may take a season to get up to speed but i really am just walking on air! lol

Ashton would be good but perhaps Fred (Lyon) or Huntelaar (Ajax) would be better? Quagliarella (Udinese), Pazzini (Fiorentina) or Diego Milito (Zaragoza) would also be serve.

He would come to us. But it would take a massive offer. 15 mil + think. Who wants to do business with these dogey cockneys anyhow? they kept moving the posts around when we were haggling forNRC! we dont have the time now to p1ss around negotiating with fees now. The only positive is that West spam want to trim the wages down other wise we stand no chance. NorthcliffeBandit has the right idea with the strikers mentioned above. Carew to give fred a call perhaps??

Ashton would be the most complete forward in English football if he could sort his fitness levels out. Can't see West Ham selling him until January at least, but having said that, they do need to balance books after over spending last year, so you never know.

I'm not a huge fan of Ashton because i've always wanted Defoe, but now Agbonlahor is making good progress we don't really need Defoe and Ashton is kinda an all round striker so would go well with Carew or Gabby, I'm loving all these English players though.

First of all, I'd just like to comment how great it is to see us actually seriously going after the quality players. Its been a long time. We're in there competing, and not only competing we're landing them. In two years Randy and MON have dragged this club up by the bootheels, the transformation has been both amazing, and tremendous to witness.

As for Ashton, I wanted us to get him when he was up at Gresty Road, but of course thats now just water under the bridge. Cant see West Ham offloading him though. Too late in the window, they'd never get a replacement in. We certainly need another striker though, we need options. Injuries or suspensions to one or two of the guys up front, and we're in trouble. Our young sharpshooters, Delfouesno and McGurk, certainly aren't ready for the premiership just yet, as talented as they are.

Ashton fits the MON mould and that is why we are linked to him. Wetspam have to trim wage bill as mentioned and if a TOP offer comes in then they would have to consider it. Would like to see him in the proper claret n blue!
