'If It's Football, It's Vital'

He Comes, He Goes, He Stays - Barry Saga Over!

Gareth Barry's agent (boooo, boooo!) Alex Black has confirmed that Gareth Barry will be staying at Villa this season.

The agent issued a brief statement bringing the summer long ordeal to an end.

'After much speculation I can confirm Gareth Barry will not leave Aston Villa before the transfer window closes. He made the decision not to leave two weeks ago. We hope this draws a line under the matter.'

The Mirror claim that Barry won't look to enter into contract talks with Villa until the end of this season but 'is fully committed to the club'.

And so endeth the saga.

Just as well really, I've bought some new Barry images!

interesting not a peep out of barry himself. come on you chicken at least an apology to mr o'neill.

I think you guys played this one perfectly. Fair play for not lower your valuation and Barry strikes me as the sort of player who will always give 100%.
sw6cfc
Well done MON. You played a blinder. Now lets show LFC what they've missed out on by stuffing them on Sunday.
Adam Deuce
Will those new shirts with Barry on the back still be in the sale?
leelindsay
sw6cfc - cheers for the support! I suspect (and hope) you're right about his commitment

I think this is the signing of the summer! Great news! Lets hope we're above Liverpool come january and he'll stay all season and sign a new contract in the summer!
In MON we trust!

OK so he'll be leaving on a free in two years, but by then we'll be in the Champions League!!!! FANTASTIC WORK VILLA. WE SHALL NOT WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED!

According to the report on Talk Sport he decided to stay 2 weeks ago. So why wait this long to release the news to the fans? Maybe he was waiting for his agent to give LFC one last phoe call, to make sure it was a dead deal. He will give his all, he is that type of player. But an appology would be nice..
gappy65
I feel Milner will here soon! After he put in a transfer request. Now there is a young lad with conviction.Good on yer son!!! He did something Barry was not prepared to do.
gappy65
Fantastic news. Lets hope Gareth , the club and us FANS can put the whole business behind us, move forward and focus on a great season ahead. Gareth made a mistake we know that ( but show me a person thats never made a mistake and i will show you a liar ) BARRY FOR VILLA
50 years a villan
MON has done a good job in securing club over player power, I just hope that GB has the same desire to wear the shirt but more importantly the commitment to do our great club justice as he has shown he can do in the past. Whichever way he still picks up his very healthy wage packet lets hope he does. I'm not so sure.

gappy65,Barry agreed to a deadline before to end it and after the club came out and told everyone he is staying he went back on it,Which is probably why they did not come out two weeks ago and tell us he is staying to avoid that again,But now barrys agent has come out and said this publicly i am glad this whole silly saga is over,He is a quality player and thats what we need. How funny would it be if he scores against the scousers.Well done to the club for holding on to him and not budging.
lerneravfc
Delighted that he's staying, even if its an uneasy truce, and he's possibly only staying for now. Should be elated by the news, but when I first heard it I just felt flat. No real emotion. Guess the saga has just worn everybody down.
glensider
Agree fully that MON and Mr Lerner are to be commended for the stance they took over the whole sorry affair, and for sticking to their guns.
glensider
At the end of the day, your best player, your captain and your longest serving player wanted to leave you. And only for the valuation of the player, he would have been wearing the red of Liverpool
Eusebio
lerneravfc; I think you misunderstood me. I was not questioning the clubs reason for not releasing the news, because as you said they was bitten by that before, accepting Barry's agreement on face value only to be made look silly. I was questioning Barry and his advisors about the delay. Why the delay? Maybe they was just making sure it was a dead deal, before making commitment.
gappy65
Glensider; I too felt flat about the news. But I put it down to Barry's behaviour, not so much the lenght of the saga, although it has taken it's toll. But I for one will cheer Barry, but I will never see the man in same light again.
gappy65
Personally I reckon he's severely pssed off about it all. Thanks to Liverpool, the damage has been done - I doubt he'll ever be quite as good as he was. They've become the new Man United in my eyes, and fat Rafa is the new Ferguson - in both cases, the ones I love to hate. _________________________________________________________________ Liverpools poor showing against Liege should fire the rest of the Villa boys up to smash them on Sunday. Put the blip of Stoke behind us.
evoflash
Hopefully Barry is now relatively calm and settled about his decision. He may not be around for the long term, but while he's here, lets make the most of it, and hopefully make the sort of progress that might convince him to stay.
glensider
Too right evoflash. They hardly looked world-beaters against Standard Liege did they? Far from it in fact. Over the two games Liverpool were very much second best.
