James Milner Hands In Transfer Request

Well this will put the cat amongst the pigeons, or in this case the magpies.

Newcastle winger and reported Villa target James Milner has handed in a transfer request.

Newcastle have now agreed to listen to offers but have warned that interested clubs will have to match their asking price.

A club statement has been released:

Newcastle United can confirm that it has received a written transfer request from James Milner. The club is very disappointed that James sees his footballing future as being away from St James` Park. He is a valued member of the squad and it is only a year ago that he signed an improved long-term contract.'

'We have yet to receive an offer for James that has matched our valuation of the player. However, should such an offer be received then the club would be reluctantly forced to consider it, given James` apparent desire to leave.'

So, what is their valuation and are Villa going to match it? Liverpool has also been linked to the England U21 player.

Our latest poll asks what you think of the potential signing!

I think the question we need to ask ourselves is do we need a Right sided Midfielder? I would be very happy if he signs better then SWP and prob as good as Bentley but without the high profile and arrogance. One of the premier leagues most underrated players for sure.
Tez86
Well done james,You know where you want to be.

I just heard this on the Radio One news. Brilliant news. Now come MON. Lets get him signed up.

Let's get in and get him. Fast! If Liverpool start snooping around, you never know what could happen. I def think it's the main priority. A striker can wait til january but we NEED Jmaes Milner.
stpaulmcgrath
Ooops. Sorry.
Adam Deuce
stpaul... we'd easily outbid the scousers!
bobbyfett
So this is how those transfer things are supposed to work?
Winsforvilla
Lets just hope that Newcastle don't do to us what we did to Liverpoo! If we don't meet their valuation the lad won't go anywhere and he'll have to rot in the reserves. We REALLY need the balance a decent right hand side player would bring and he's young and british! Perfect for MON, Villa, Me and eeeeeveryone i know!
mtones
I think we'll price everyone out buying him and then offer the new contract on top bracket money he's quite blatantly angling for. If ****e like Duff, Smith and Viduka get paid 60k a week, god knows what that makes Jimmy worth.
SirLes
Milner has done it the right way and handed in a transfer request thus forfiting any loyalty bonus....unlike Barry. Well done Milner.
MattUTV
You can`t price out randy lerner,He is loaded.
lerneravfc
He played really well last night too in the cup when playing upfront on his own for long periods...
AMS78
one word - QUALITY!!!
Upthevilla_83
get in, i think o'neil knows he may have to pay 10-12 million for him but thats ok this is what we need, i know alot of people seem to prefer SWP but lets face it milner plays week in week out and is a consistant performer, it would also give us so much more balance and take some presure of ashley this will be great news, just hope we call them up ask how much they want and offer it, please dont waste time hagling over this one, get him in for the liverpoo game on sunday.
1982benny
get the fudge in milner. welcome home.
Stig
this transfer request suggests to me that he might be looking at a move elsewhere instead of villa park. When have Villa ever unsettled a player during the bidding process whereas certain other clubs seem to make a habit of it. Hope im wrong, Milner would be a great signing.
andrew144
liverpool were reportedly interested , who knows... thinking about it, may not be too excited about this one yet, but looks likely for villa
krisvilla
Andrew144 I agree, I think he's off to Scouseland. Sorry to be a pessimist but we know we've 9m. He's hadnded in the request so he can move to the cheapskates.
tarzan
Go up to 12 mil MON. Well worth it. And those doubters who would rather have SWP should remember who our Player of The Season was 3 years ago!!!!
Villan444
Well done Milner, now please sign for Villa
Poncho
In the shirt, on the pitch. Get it done MON..........your followers await
UTV
Sign him up Martin!!!
sportyvillain
villan444, milner was the best of a bad bunch that season, 12 mill is surely too much. However he is still only 22! I really wanted swp but can't think of anything hes done in the last 12 months, so i'm voting for milner.
_aron_
Milner is twice the player of SWP, just hope we get in there ahead of liverpool. he has been here before, dont forget.
samd577
sorry to change the subject.....just read that barry's agent has said he will not be leaving during this transfer window.....good news IMO hopefully he can get his act together now
1982benny
1982benny...where was that?
In MON we trust!
Think MON must have had converstaions with Milners' agent saying that he is coming otherwise I am sure that he would be in the hat for SWP as he is a good alternative although older and on more wages.
Villan444
I am hoping that MON would have let Milner know that he will definately get him if he hands the request in. I cant see why a player would hand a transfer request so near to the deadline without being guaranteed an exit to the club of their choice.
Tez86
You can check Barry's agent statement on Setanta Sports website. As of Milner, it's definetely looking good IMO. :)
delirium
Andrew144 and Tarzan: What exactly makes you think that?
astonguerilla
If Milner comes to us it would be fantastic. Brilliant news about Barry. I'm going to wake up soon, so I'll enjoy this while it lasts. What a great dream I'm having.
ThirtyOne
Come on James, the number 8 shirt awaits
DoLpHiNaToR
astonguerilla - of course i've no idea whats really going on, but you only have to look at the way certain teams unsettle players during the transfer process. Look at Barry, Berbatov and Arshavin as examples of players being unsettled at their clubs as a result of long drawn out attempted transfers. Although looking at optimistically, Friedal, Cuellar and Shorey (i think) had all handed in transfer requests so its not all bad news.
andrew144
Andreww144 - Fair point. I'm not really sure what to think myself, but I do hope we get him, it's the perfect solution to our right sided problem. He'd definetly get into a lot of people's top ten list of premiership right wingers. I might even look at putting the Aston Guerillas fantasy football team setup (2nd place, get in guerillas!).
astonguerilla
tits - that's supposed to read, 'I might even look at putting him in the Aston Guerrillas fantasy football team' - My boss sits just behind me which forces me to write quickly and make loads of mistakes, plus I'm a retard.
astonguerilla
Belief in yourself is everything astonguerilla!
NorthcliffeBandit
Could be a top notch signing here, hope we get him for well less than 12m though
NorthcliffeBandit
http://sport.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Football/2008/08/27/Prem-PFA-statement-on-Milner/ Sounds to me like he still might stay with the barcodes!?
astonguerilla
Yeah, just read that also. Maybe he's just trying to get a better contract?
In MON we trust!
We'll give him a better contract!! Get your a r se down here Jimmy!!
nottinghamvillain
Its been much talked about in the papers that MON would know after today whether we could get him, so MON must have known about the transfer request last week. Very good of him to keep his gob shut really unlike other managers that spring to mind.
Villan444
Wish i could wake up on the 2nd Sept and end the excitement/Misery! IMO he's coming, if he does it will make it hands down our BEST summer of signings i reckon :o)
mtones
I think his heart has always been at VILLA PARK since his season on loan, then he was snatched away at the very last minute on the final day of the transfer window. I look forward to saying WELCOME HOME JAMES
50 years a villan
Just wonder where he wants to go. Hopefully we will be graced with Milner at Villa Park in the claret and blue of villa once more. What a prospect young on 1 wing and milner on the other. Come on James Villa is calling.
pksandell
Not sure on this one, he played really well last night against coventry but still think he is missing that little bit extra. But the again he is better at RW than NRCm but who does MON drop? Milner. Barry . NRC. Super Ash. is my Holy Quartet!!!!!!!!
erv2005
Fingers crossed, hopefully Mart can pull it off. A major signing indeed, a player who will very definitely solve that problematical right wing situation. What does it matter how much he costs NorthcliffeBandit? If he's want we want and desperately need, why should the fee even come into it?
glensider
We could still I understand face serious competition from Liverpool, so its certainly not cut and dried yet.
glensider
im still struggling to understand why there is concern over who we would drop. im sure at some point everyone would be dropped, we cannot continue to go through the league and cup competitions not being able to drop players, we need to have more people to choose from otherwise we will never compete.
1982benny
COME ON MON YOU KNOW YOU WANT HIM! SO GET HIM! Just imagine the pain we would be to play against then Young down the left, Milner down the right. we would have to be the quickest team in the league with that. If we are not the quickest already, which I think we are but not according to 442 scout
Tallaght Villan
Yeah
bellywipes
Yippee we got him!!!
bellywipes
Agree with Tallaght Villan, he'll complement our pacy attack perfectly. He tracks back too, which will really add strength and defensive stability to our right flank.
glensider
This could be the end of KK at St James Park, despite his putting a brave face on the sale. The clock is ticking, Ashley and co are playing (have played) with fire.
