I'll try to not be too negative here, but Nicky shorey believes Carew and Gabby compliment each other perfectly in attack.
Speaking on the official site Shorey expresses how impressed he's been with the pace and power of our two frontmen since he joined the club, and he's sure they will have a massive influence on our season.
'They are a great combination. Gabby and John are two players that are tough to come up against in training! But I suppose training with them day in and day out will only improve my game defensively.
'John is so strong and holds the ball up really well. He is so powerful and such an outlet for us defenders. We can get it up to him and we know he will be able to keep hold of the ball and give us a breather.
'That's a big part of his game and I don't know anyone better at it than him.
'He is the perfect foil for Gabby. John holds the ball up and used his strength so Gabby can dart in there with his pace.
'They are a good pairing and I'm sure they will score us a lot of goals this season.'
Once Gabby learns to read and anticipate Carew's flicks I'm sure between them they will score a hatful but the understanding isn't their yet and they don't work as a team.
Sometimes it gells for a bit and they both look unstoppable, on other occassions it's like they've never played together before.
Again, like our defensive problems, that will surely come in time and hopefully we'll have more good days than bad from them both, but I wouldn't go as far as saying they are the perfect couple just yet.
They certainly could be, and I suppose this is a downside of having young and developing players in the team, but it'll come.
They may work perfectly together on the training pitch, it just generally takes a little longer for that to work in competative games.
