One of the strangest things I'll write I'm sure, but Cyrille Regis believes John Carew is a lynch pin in the Villa attack and believes his nomad days are over.
At only 28 and a string of 7 clubs to his name, some would be forgiven for thinking John Carew didn't want to be a footballer, he simply wanted to travel the world and found a way of paying for it. Good ol Cyrille Regis thinks his nomad days are well over now and that's all down to Martin O'Neill and his man management skills.
Carew feels wanted.
Speaking on the official site, the former Villa star said that John Carew's vast experience and presence is invaluable within a squad of youngsters like Gabby and Ash, and whilst they provide the enthusiasm and youthful energy, you need somebody like Carew to add that know-how and footballing brain to proceedings.
'John has a lot of experience and he has good youngsters around him like Gabby and Ashley. He has the experience you need to nurture those players.
'He is an old head in there. He leads the line well, holds the ball up and causes massive problems for defenders.
'He has developed a good relationship with Gabby and that was one of the main reasons for Villa's fantastic time in 2007-08. You need that know-how when you have youngsters coming through the ranks.'
As for whether Carew will add Villa to his long list of 'short stays', the answer to that came a few days ago when he signed a years extension to keep him at the club until 2011, and Regis believes that was purely down to Martin O'Neill.
'John has moved from club to club over the past few years but he seems settled now at Villa. That is down to the manager in my opinion.
'Martin has inspired him and got the best out of him - that is one of the manager's best traits.'
