Cyrille - A Nomad No More

One of the strangest things I'll write I'm sure, but Cyrille Regis believes John Carew is a lynch pin in the Villa attack and believes his nomad days are over.

At only 28 and a string of 7 clubs to his name, some would be forgiven for thinking John Carew didn't want to be a footballer, he simply wanted to travel the world and found a way of paying for it. Good ol Cyrille Regis thinks his nomad days are well over now and that's all down to Martin O'Neill and his man management skills.

Carew feels wanted.

Speaking on the official site, the former Villa star said that John Carew's vast experience and presence is invaluable within a squad of youngsters like Gabby and Ash, and whilst they provide the enthusiasm and youthful energy, you need somebody like Carew to add that know-how and footballing brain to proceedings.

'John has a lot of experience and he has good youngsters around him like Gabby and Ashley. He has the experience you need to nurture those players.

'He is an old head in there. He leads the line well, holds the ball up and causes massive problems for defenders.

'He has developed a good relationship with Gabby and that was one of the main reasons for Villa's fantastic time in 2007-08. You need that know-how when you have youngsters coming through the ranks.'

As for whether Carew will add Villa to his long list of 'short stays', the answer to that came a few days ago when he signed a years extension to keep him at the club until 2011, and Regis believes that was purely down to Martin O'Neill.

'John has moved from club to club over the past few years but he seems settled now at Villa. That is down to the manager in my opinion.

'Martin has inspired him and got the best out of him - that is one of the manager's best traits.'

I think the more physical style of game in England suits Big JC better than in any other league. He can dish it out a bit and not keep getting pulled up by the ref. Top player, hope he finishes his career at VP.

JC gets pulled up on stupid **** all the time, I don't think our games that physical when compared anymore. John has said many times that he thinks he wil be here till the end of his career, I beleive him. Nice one John. x

Carew swopped for Baros, what an absolute master stroke by Martin O'Neill. Any one want Baros back? Thought not.. Villas position in the league with the big man playing as many games as he could. 6th with Baros in the team? What are the freeking odds of that hapening? We have in Carew a player who is a leader on the pitch and a player defenders dont like playing against. He doe's get pulled up by the ref on many occasions just because he is such a physical presence on the pitch.

A leader on the pitch? You sure? He is awesome on his day, but he needs to have more days imho. He doesn't use his physical presence nearly enough and gets quite easily pushed off the ball. He also moans too quickly and comes to the touchline for treatment when he gets a knock, the players of old would need their legs to have come off for them to react to a knock and then they would probably still try to play!

Yes, he sure aint like Big Peter Withe in that respect Jonathan. Shares a lot of Withe's good points though, and is certainly an ideal partner for the youthful exhuberance of Gabby and Ash.

I think Carew can be great but I think he has not been anywhere near as good as he has been made out on this thread, last season his heading was worse than gabbys both in accuracy and in percentage of headers won. Now thats not to bad when just considering how good Gabby is, but considering John is our tall target man its not good enought. I think we have a great player in John but that still has to reach his potential.
