Davies Tells Villa To Deal With It

With all the expectation on us this weekend, Curtis Davies has said we need to go out against Stoke and win the match on the pitch, not rely on 3 points based on paper.

Bit of a non statement really, Villa will be expected to come away with 3 points but we saw plenty of times last season that games we had already won on paper had a habit of coming back and biting us on the rear, and if Villa hope to progress this season it's in these sorts of games we need to win, and win convincingly.

Speaking on the official site, 'he of the miraculous recovery' said:

'I think one of their strengths will be that there is an expectation that we should win the game.

'If anything that takes the pressure off them. I know they want to win but the pundits will expect us to come away with three points. But games aren't won on paper - they are won on the football pitch.

'We look in good form but we need to go out and perform well on the day. We will have to battle and work hard.

'We need to get our foot and head in and get amongst it because that's the kind of game I expect it to be. Once we win that battle, hopefully out quality will come through.

'It was a tough place to go when I was at West Brom because I remember having to win a lot of headers against the likes of Mamady Sidibe and Ricardo Fuller.

'They have Dave Kitson and Jon Parkin now and it's going to be a tough task.'

A tough task, but on Saturday we'll see if Villa have learnt from their mistakes last season.

They are arguably the most physical side now in the top flight, they'll keep pumping them high balls in, as Stourbridge Villan says they'll be well and truly up for it, and they'll sure as hell take no prisoners. It'll be a tough one alright, and we'd better be up for the battle.

On a roll GS, the boys are well up for it, they are feeling the force and will carry this through to a battering of the redscouse.

I've rarely seen us win at Stoke over the years steff, seen us get one or two batterings there though, including a 6-1 reversal. I think we'll be o.k. though. If the supporters are over-confident, I dont think the players will be.

In all seriousness I know what Stoke are capable of, bunch of bruisers who have hacked, elbowed, punched and kicked their way up to the prem, a good fighting spirit there, but I believe the speed and class we have on the pitch will just be too much for them.
