Davies Tells Villa To Deal With It
With all the expectation on us this weekend, Curtis Davies has said we need to go out against Stoke and win the match on the pitch, not rely on 3 points based on paper.
Bit of a non statement really, Villa will be expected to come away with 3 points but we saw plenty of times last season that games we had already won on paper had a habit of coming back and biting us on the rear, and if Villa hope to progress this season it's in these sorts of games we need to win, and win convincingly.
Speaking on the official site, 'he of the miraculous recovery' said:
'I think one of their strengths will be that there is an expectation that we should win the game.
'If anything that takes the pressure off them. I know they want to win but the pundits will expect us to come away with three points. But games aren't won on paper - they are won on the football pitch.
'We look in good form but we need to go out and perform well on the day. We will have to battle and work hard.
'We need to get our foot and head in and get amongst it because that's the kind of game I expect it to be. Once we win that battle, hopefully out quality will come through.
'It was a tough place to go when I was at West Brom because I remember having to win a lot of headers against the likes of Mamady Sidibe and Ricardo Fuller.
'They have Dave Kitson and Jon Parkin now and it's going to be a tough task.'
A tough task, but on Saturday we'll see if Villa have learnt from their mistakes last season.
