'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Maloney Merry-Go-Round

According to Shaun Maloney's agent three clubs have contacted him about the availability of his client. I'm wondering if they've contacted the club myself?

Maloney has struggled to impress since his £1 million move from Celtic and there have been constant 'homesick' rumours and numerous reports linking him with a switch back to the Hoops.

To be honest this saga is more boring than the Barry one and yet again there are absolutely no quotes from the player or the agent but I thought somebody might be interested.

John Halliwell, the long lost brother of the 3 witches from Charmed and agent of Shaun has apparently told BBC Sport that three clubs are interested in his client but that Villa have not discussed any potential move and neither have they received any bids.

The Beeb, in what no doubt will be used as a means to raise the license tax further, originally (ha) state one of the clubs is Celtic but refuse to speculate on who the other two clubs are.

Whether this is the excuse for the rehash, or whether this is the gem that implies there is some truth here, I'll leave for you to decide.

But Maloney has been left out of George Burley's Scottish squad for the Northern Ireland friendly and we all know how much Maloney wants to play for Scotland. Halliwell added that Maloney wants to secure first team football so he doesn't fall down the international pecking order any further.

So if Maloney has failed to show more than glimpses when played, and has failed to show much more in training, if we can recoup our fee plus wages is it time to move him on?

Tell him to play well for Villa and his problems are solved. Easy. Clearly if he was doing well enough, he would be in the team. Graham Taylor always said that it is the players who pick the team by their performances.
Gordonsleftboot
he's off, shame, so long, fair well.
The Fear
adios. etc.

Scotlands boss is George Burley, not Craig.

I thought he had just been going on about being settled? Anyway, no doubt nobody in the PL have been asking after him. Probably Celtic, Rangers and Hearts! True what Gordonsleft said about the players picking themselves by performances. But just look at Harewoods performances as sub, but he still hasn't cracked the first team, and after Gabby's hattrick on Sunday, doesnt look like he will this season either. Sometimes I wonder what players must do to get back in MON's 1st team? Still I dont mean that as a critisism. Who can fault him at the moment!

weetim that's what I put PMSL Nice spot mate cheers! Duly changed!

the reason he doesn't get played is that o'neill will always go for a physical pressence if available. don't know why he went, o'neill didn't exactly flourish him with opportunities when he was at celtic.

O'Neill moves in mysterious ways. Some of his wackier decisions he made are still damaging Celtic now. I just hope no club ever lets him take complete control of wages again, it will end in tears. As always.

I'd like Maloney to stay, that's my two cents. Toughen up Maloney.

No one plays for Villa for ever, he has only been a bit part player and MON may think he has enough players to let hm go.

I like wee Sean, but his heart clearly isn't in it...have you ever seen him smile whilst at Villa? I haven't...
olafthegreat
I'm not a big Shaun Maloney fan if I'm honest. He's a decent enough little player, but has never really convinced me that he has what it takes to cement a permanent starting role here at Villa Park.

You know, can we afford to let him go right now though? I would think not, certainly not with the amount of games we are hoping to play between now and next May. We need more bodies, not more reduction, numbers wise. Talk of a possible swap deal involving Naylor leaves me cold, I certainly hope that that's not on MON's agenda.

He's a talented lad, but I think the physical side of the PL is too much for him, maybe. If we are going to sign a winger and a striker we can afford to let him go, Routledge can play left or right wing as cover.
keithlees1978
He hasn't been happy since he left Celtic. But, he dosen't smile anyway... Remember when he scored from 40 yards against Rangers. He was running around the length of the field to celebrate and couldn't even show a smile.
R.K
Good point, i dont think he has smiled even when he has played and scored too
Upthevilla_83
Players are working people just like us... If you cant get the work your after, then you'll go somewhere else? Players earn there money by playing.. not by getting splinters on the bench! Just look at Routledge? He's playing Nigel right wing when we've got him? He's looked like dynamite in pre-season, but Mon will only change it once we get pasted! I'd be p*ssed if I was a winger and Nigel was ahead of me.. But all our tones will change when we lose! We'll all say " we've got wingers... why aren't they playing??" LOL!
notaspur
Few would/could argue with you notaspur. Routledge was one of the few individuals to shine pre-season, and certainly deserves an opportunity. I'd like to see him play the full ninety next Thursday in the second-leg of the UEFA Cup.
