Gabby's Triple Vision

Gabby Agbonlahor has stolen tomorrow's sports headlines with his fantastic hattrick into todays match against Manchester City.

Despite stealing the show and many fans Man of the Match vote, the pacey, (and as a huge critic of Gabby's overall play myself, I must add) the steadily improving striker was quick to praise the service he received and his fellow teammates.

The England U21 striker in only 8 minutes has shown Fabio Capello has made an Ass of himself in selecting Emule Heskey and not him for the full squad this time round.

I don't get that, why go back to a player who couldn't hack it at International level years ago and since then succeeded in becoming the first (I think) striker to only score once in a whole season?

Anyway, I digress.

Speaking on the official site after the match, the usual bubbly Gabby said:

'To score three goals in the opening game, I couldn't have asked for a better start to the season.

'We had loads of chances to score in the first-half - Gareth had a few and others players had a few - so we knew the goals would come and they did in the second-half.

'My partnership with John Carew is a good partnership but it's thanks to the midfielders as well. If it wasn't for them today we wouldn't have scored four. So credit to them.'

are you kidding? with man utd playing today what makes you think the press are going to change a habbit of a lifetime and another team above them?

Brilliant from gabby,He is very young and still has years of improvement ahead, hopefully it will see him becoming our 20 goals a season man.
lerneravfc
He shut me up today. Let's see him make this a habit and my thoughts on Gabby will change indefinitely.
los_angeles_villan
He is improving season on season, can't say fairer than that. 3 goals already, wonder if he can push for 15 - 20 this season?
The Fear
Great hat trick from Gabby, especially the run for his third goal. Again, we look like we will score plenty but concede a lot too. Better teams than City might have punished us for some of the easy giveaways today. Anyway, great start to the season for a change and brilliant to see the boys play again.

I can't believe some of the stick gabby has received on here lately..I hope today's showing will finally shut a few people up. Well done Gabby.
jonah
I admit that i was questioning him during pre season, but if he carrys this sort of form on through the season he will be a class player for us. Great start. What is capello thinking no young in the england squad and after today performance where is gabby? Why Heskey?
pksandell
I don`t understand why people may have given him stick,He is a 22 year old up and coming player trying to progress,And over the course of 2 seasons in the first team he has improved brilliantly. In my opinion he has got everything a top striker needs,Last season he added hold up play to his game and today it looked as if he has improved his instinctive finishing. The best thing is he is truly our player,He was born in the midlands is a villa fan and is a product of our youth system,That 90 seconds at the sty last season was epic.I love it.
lerneravfc
It was a perfect hat-trick, right foot, head and left foot
notthedougellisstand
This is true, he is one of us. And you know what, if Gabby was on minimum wage he'd probably still want to play for Villa.
Villan-in-Cyprus
Surfer dude, I don't think we'll concede as many as last year, Friedel was class today and shorey and L young when settled will be solid for us.
johnmurphy3112
I hope you're right johnmurphy, if we score 71 goals again this year, and concede 35ish rather than over 50 a top 4 spot is more than likely!!!
NorthcliffeBandit
And we still have Cuellar to come in defence who, if he's half as good as the reports, will shore us up even more.
Surfer Dude
The only thing I ever doubted about Gabby was his finishing. Until today!! An amazing performance! If he can get 15-16 this season that would be great return IMHO.
Bobby Norman
What a way to answer his doubters and critics. Well played son. Its a game of opinions, we all know that, but some of the flak thrown young Gabby's way in recent weeks has been way off base. What is he? Twenty-one, improving all the time, the envy of most clubs in the premiership, a player who gives his all every single game and never hides. Gerrcha!
glensider
His third, when he checked back initially to avoid being offside, then finished the opportunity with his left foot, showed his growing maturity and highlighted his improvement over the past two seasons. He's still not the finished product, but no one can accuse the lad of standing still.

A future Villa Legend, IMHO
steff_the_villan
glensider, his third was the best of the three and certainly showed he's developing a proper striker's brain - he also knew exactly what Barry was going to do: it would take time for him to build that kind of telepathic understanding with another midfielder - another reason why it's so important we keep hold of GB.
Athens Villa
another great thing about gabbys hat-trick is it comes on the top of him signing a new deal.
leftfoot
A great result lets hope we can keep it going cant wait for the next game. Happy new season every one.
50 years a villan
sounds like a great performance from Gabby, and great to hear he has been working on his all-round game!! Love to see him get 20+ this season!

Footballerwatch 2008: My sister saw hat-trick hero Gabby at Star City on Friday. I'm really pleased with such a great result; City often do us, but they've got plenty of problems on and off the pitch. UTV

Gabby has set high standards for himself now. We can I think hope to see 15-20 premiership goals from the lad this season.
