Gabby Agbonlahor Signs New Villa Deal

Gabby Agbonlahor has followed fast on the heels of John Carew and signed a new deal. (The Hulk Extends Stay At Villa)

Gabby, who scored a great goal against icantspelltheirname last night in our 4-1 demolition of the Icelandic team has signed a four-year deal, meaning he is contracted to Villa until the summer* of 2012.

*Definition: the rainy season. Used to be known as summer when the sun used to come out and people used to smile slightly more often.

Thats the ******** spirit.

Great news. I like Agbonlahor, very fast bunch of lads
DO'L
How many new contracts has he signed in the last 2-3 seasons its ridiculous, spend more time signing new players MON
shortshadyuk
As much as I give him flak at times, I'm glad to see Gabby extending his contract - he can only get better. Then theres also the fact that our strikers moving to other Premier League clubs never bodes well for us, i.e, they tend to bloody score when they play against us.
Mayo_12
That's the spirit slimshady. Slate the manager for tying down our talent to a respectable wage for a player of his talent rather than see the positives!
johnnyuk
I am with u johhny, some people aren't happy unless they are moaning. Maybe they should consider the fact that players might not want to come to Villa because the fans are always finding something to moan about, even when things are going well.
voiceoftheholte
Now it's Barry's turn :)
Poncho
voiceoftheholte, every club have something to "moan" about, even Man Utd fans are not happy all the time. Great news about Gabby, like Mayo_12, I am not his biggest fan at times, but the lad has got the ability so hope this will be a great season for him, good to get our best players tied down, Laursen, Gabby and Carew all recently signing new contracts, how about Young next?
young_jonah
Good point poncho!
The Fear
Great news, I really rate Gabby. Shame about the face.
IanSymes
My favourite player, I've always had a fettish for fast speedy types. If he could score more goals he would be unplayable.
tarzan
Agreed Tarzan, he is certainly a pacey lad, I bet there isnt a defender in that league who doesnt dread playing us with Gabby in the team, hard to defend against.
young_jonah
Good piece of sound business by MON and the club. Gabby is learning and improving all the time, developing into quite a talent.
glensider
Its laughable that some see fit to criticise MON for getting the lads onto long term deals. Surely that very action is the aim of most clubs who are planning and building for the future?
glensider
Martin has to tie Ashley Young down to a new deal now.
villa for ever
Agree villa for ever i think out of all the players we have he is the one the top for would like to tap up, must be worth about 20 mil now getting him to sign would be Christmas come early.

I like Gabby's attitude and hope he improves to become a great Villa player. However, I don't really see it. He isn't incisive enough up front, and still can't keep close control of the ball and loses possesssion too easily. Beating players for pace is easy to deal with once you know how he plays. Please prove me 100% wrong, but I think I have seen enough to have my doubts - just like a number of others on this thread have admitted. Apart from his goal he lost the ball and wasted good positions too much last night against very limited opposition. Routledge looked more like it than he did last night, but we have not seen enough of him to make a judgement. Much of the team looks superbly sorted, however, and I look forward to a rock solid defence being the foundation of success up front too. Should at least repeat last year's sixth and hopefully have better luck in the cups.
stennyvilla
young_jonah - sorry to disagree - he's easy to defend against -just let him run out of space - very fast and that all - he should be playing rugby or hockey where he doesn;t have to use his brains -ouch" I'm waiting for the dissidents.
villacross
stennyvilla - you obviously know something about the game and I agree with virtually everything you say - I can't him holdimg the striker role in 12 months time. I hope I'm wrong but we need to see massive improvement and after 2 years under O'Neills guidance, I don't see that much change in his performance.
villacross
Just back from holiday. It all happens while im away, three new players, current players signing new contracts, good win in europe, and a bloke named Barry begging to play and sroring a goal. Happy days.
50 years a villan
Remember in the 4-4 draw at stamford bridge last year, when carvalho got sent off for two-footin the lad? Its cos he was basically the last man, and he knew he had to take gabby out, cos e was never gonna catch him!!!
NorthcliffeBandit
I dont know about sending off NorthcliffeBandit, Carvalho should have been hung, drawn, and quartered for that outrageous challenge.
glensider
Cant get you to go on your travels again can we 50 years a villan. We're still short in key areas.
glensider
Glensider i have come back broke and it rained for most of the time. If you can organise a Whip round amongst the Vital Villa faithful i will consider having a second holiday.
50 years a villan
It only rained because you were singing on the cliff tops 50years a villan. It has been tropical heats and sunshine up in the midlands whilst you were away! :o)
The Fear
I think it all happened because I was back in the UK. When I leave it all goes quiet again. S**t, i'm looking for a flight back there now !!!!!
