Bid Lodged For Newcastle Winger Milner?

The press are reporting that Villa put in a bid for Newcastle winger James Milner yesterday and are currently waiting for a response.

The Mirror say we've bid 9million and reckon we'll raise the money by selling Gareth Barry to Liverpool later in the week. Total hogwash, Villa don't have to sell to buy anymore. The Mirror have 'sources close' to the player saying Milner would like to stay in the Toon but the club are ignoring his requests for new contract talks.

The Daily Mail also claim we've bid 9million.

The Guardian meanshile say Villa have bid 7m. They also say Newcastle's manager, Kevin Keegan, faces a possible battle with his board over Milner. He is keen to keep the 22-year-old but will most likely have to sell players to achieve his ambition of adding to his squad this month and the club's owner, Mike Ashley, will be sorely tempted to accept an offer for Milner. Ashley revealed this week that Newcastle still owe 27m in outstanding payments on transfer deals completed before he took over. Keegan meanwhile wants to hold on to his players and is also seeing striker Alan Smith linked with Everton and Villa.

LOL, his price is crashing as the Telegraph say we've bid 6million for the 22-year old England U21 international. They further claim that Keegan recently managed to hold onto Alan Smith after Ashley accepted a 3 million offer from Everton. But if Ashley now agrees to sell Milner it will certainly place further strain on his relationship with Keegan, whose second stint as Newcastle has been far from smooth.

If the bid is 9million I'd be shocked if they turn it down. Good signing for us as far as I can see, then if we turn our attention to a striker, surely we'll be more than sorted for the season, or at least until January!?

Talking about strikers, The Sun claim Manchester City have bid 12m for Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz who was linked to Villa last week.

keegan wants to keep him, ashley is having to pay off 27 million of transfers a while ago before he came, 9 million will tempt them, but keegan won't be happy. Ashley is one unwilling billionaire to spend the dosh, I personally think he wants out! .... I'm digressing... Milner played very well during his time at Villa, would be good signing again, all positive!

He bought Newcastle without doing any due diligence apparently. Amazing. Some think these clubs are cash cows, but footie is unlike any other business, we all know that, strange some of these new owners don't! lol

i remember reading an article on Ashley, he was made a billioanire in one day, he said he kept out the limelight and there was about two pictures of him in existence. He buys newcastle, and wears his shirt, and sits himself with the fans like a proper plastic fan that he is. Surely buying newcastle he would of known about the debts, if he was a proper supporter, you can't really make money in football unless your a player!

According to the Mercury: The Aston Villa boss has turned his attentions to the England Under-21 winger as he spends the cash he will raise by selling Gareth Barry to Liverpool later this week.....You gotta laugh!! Barry isn't going anywhere.

forgot milner is only 22. at first didnt fancy the fella back. but with swp and lennon seemingly staying put, then he could offer us something. he could also switch wings with young. 9 mill is alot for limited delivery tho

I would love to see Millner back at VP - he is very young, has tons of experience, and I fancy MON could turn him into a fantastic player!! And yes, then we can turn our attentions to getting another striker- keep em rolling in MON!!!!

Would be a great signing for you lot, would make a change playing in a good team rather than the skunks week in week out.

Where are the people who were questioning randys integrity? The pr, spin, eliis era and lies comments which were made in regards to randys financial backing to the general were quite frankly embarrassing and out of order.Anyway onwards and upwards,Newcastle will not be able to turn down 9 million for milner,And i would suggest that villa know that which is why we haven`t tried with a lower bid first.I can`t wait to see him back at the villa.

Milners in the same mould as Gareth Barry. Wouldnt be surprised to see MON chuck him in CM after a few seasons if we sign him. Good siging and can only improve more as a player. 9m is a bit steep though, 7m is more realistic.

SSN on their website claim that Villa have made an offer for Milner. He is a good player, and no doubt he has improved over that last 2 seasons, and M'ON can improve his game. I would ideally like to see a striker come in to make his debut on Saturday.

Milner's the key, 9m is not too steep when you consider the market. I wouldn't care how much we spent on him. He's one for the future I'm sure and he WILL be a top 4 player.

I remember some folks questioning 9m for Ashley Young, but not any more. I'm sure Milner would be equally as good a signing

Exactly what Y_J said. Simple as. Quality player who, at 22, is only going to get batter with age...European football wouldn't do him too bad either.

Hope Martin can pull this one off. He's just what we're missing/lacking out wide right. 9m is a bargain, cheap in fact when you consider how he'll help move this club forward.

Cant imagine for one minute that Keegan wants to see him go though, so I dont expect this one to go through smoothly. Might take a bit of negotiating, but even so, King Kev wont be too happy about our approach.

I have to agree Glensider; Milner would be a great addition to the squad. I like Milners work rate, not often do you get wingers with that work ethic. MON loves players who work hard for the side. But I like you Glensider, don't think Keegan will let him go wothout a fight!

We have made a number of quality defensive signings, but it will be harder to find the extra quality for the right wing and for up front alongside Carew. I do not think Milner is a vaat improvement on the right. He can't cross the ball with anything like the accuracy of delivery of Young on the left, who admittedly sets a high standard. In my mind more of a signing in the Zak Knight and Harewood bracket, rather than Cuellar or Friedl bracket. 5 milliion absolute tops - but I prefer we get someone better. Alternatively I hope I am wrong about him, but he is not the finished article from what I have seen, and after 5 years in the Premier is unlikely to improve that much. However, we have made great signings so far , so here is hoping that MON gets the right pieces to finish a great Summer's investment.

KK wont let him go. Not that the player himself wants to leave sorry.. but yes i agree he is a fantastic 22 yr old british winger with loads of talent. both footed. can play on either wing as well as a centre role. look forward to seein more from the lad in a black n white shirt.

T4L: cast your mind back to Andy Cole...smasing the hell out of every defence in the EPL, scoring for fun and just the hottest striker of his generation...I was 13 or 14...Cole was SOLD! KK will sell if it means bringing in money or if he thinks he can spot an available talent worthy enough to replace...don't be so sure my striped little friend. P.S. I like KK and Newcastle, behind Villa I'm neutrally hoping you guys do well! Just get rid of that w-a-n-k-e-r Barton will you.

Glensider, what you smokin m8??? 9 mil cheap for Milner LOL... Christ almighty... We really need to evaluate what kind of football we want to see at Villa PArk.. We are trying to move forward but Young on one flank and.. Wait FOR IT..... MILNER on the other??? Come on... Not worth 9 mil.. even in an inflated market that we are in.. 9 mil.. LOL??? .... Behave!!! I do agree he works hard.. but that alone is not enough in my book.. very limited player. Typical English all-heart-not enough-ability... Thats what Fabio Capello thinks about some of our players and Milner certainly is one of those!!
