The press are reporting that Villa put in a bid for Newcastle winger James Milner yesterday and are currently waiting for a response.
The Mirror say we've bid £9million and reckon we'll raise the money by selling Gareth Barry to Liverpool later in the week. Total hogwash, Villa don't have to sell to buy anymore. The Mirror have 'sources close' to the player saying Milner would like to stay in the Toon but the club are ignoring his requests for new contract talks.
The Daily Mail also claim we've bid £9million.
The Guardian meanshile say Villa have bid £7m. They also say Newcastle's manager, Kevin Keegan, faces a possible battle with his board over Milner. He is keen to keep the 22-year-old but will most likely have to sell players to achieve his ambition of adding to his squad this month and the club's owner, Mike Ashley, will be sorely tempted to accept an offer for Milner. Ashley revealed this week that Newcastle still owe £27m in outstanding payments on transfer deals completed before he took over. Keegan meanwhile wants to hold on to his players and is also seeing striker Alan Smith linked with Everton and Villa.
LOL, his price is crashing as the Telegraph say we've bid £6million for the 22-year old England U21 international. They further claim that Keegan recently managed to hold onto Alan Smith after Ashley accepted a £3 million offer from Everton. But if Ashley now agrees to sell Milner it will certainly place further strain on his relationship with Keegan, whose second stint as Newcastle has been far from smooth.
If the bid is £9million I'd be shocked if they turn it down. Good signing for us as far as I can see, then if we turn our attention to a striker, surely we'll be more than sorted for the season, or at least until January!?
Talking about strikers, The Sun claim Manchester City have bid £12m for Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz who was linked to Villa last week.
