Rangers Fan Interview On Carlos Cuellar

Rangers Fan Interview On Carlos Cuellar

1) So Cuellar has moved to Aston Villa. Are you surprised he is looking to move?

Not really a surprise, after we were knocked out of the Champions League, I think it was a matter of when rather than if. I was surprised by the clause in his contract, usually the papers pick up on things like that but no newspapers even seemed to know about this clause.

2) What sort of player have Villa bought?

Villa will be getting a no nonsense defender. Cuellar is very composed and very rarely makes mistakes. He is very handy with his head at set pieces so expect him to pitch in with a couple of goals. He is the sort of player who would quite happily take one for the team, and he did last season when he pulled off a save which any good goalkeeper would have been proud of in a game against Celtic. He knew what he was doing, he was prepared to get sent off to try and get Rangers the result they needed. As it happened, McGregor saved the resulting penalty. Had it not been for the referee taking the policy of keeping the game going until Celtic could score a goal, we could have got a valuable point in that game.

I'm told we shouldn't show youtube clips due to copyright which youtube are breaking but I can't resist showing this, if I have to remove it, so be it, every other site seems to get away with it!

3) What impact will the departure have on Rangers and how will the Rangers fans view the player moving from Ibrox?

No doubt about it, it's a crushing blow for the team, he is our rock. I thought the Rangers fans would have been wishing him all the best and no hard feelings, but I'm reading everywhere that fans are calling him a traitor. I don't share that view at all, he done what was best for him.

4) Do you think he'll fit in straight away in the Premier League?

Absolutely 100% convinced that he will. A lot of people will compare him to Boumsong who left Rangers to sign for Newcastle in a big money deal and then flopped, but I think Cuellar is a different kettle of fish. He has character. which Boumsong didn't have. Boumsong thought he could just fit in and the games would be as easy as they were in the SPL but was sadly mistaken. Cuellar will know he has went up a level and I think he will adjust

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Rangers fans. Everything I have read from them has ben supportive of Cuellar and wishing him and Villa well. Compare that to the insults and jibes thrown in our clubs direction by Celtic fans over the purchases of Petrov and Maloney. Respect to rangers, best of luck for the SPL season.

He is out of the 6 signings the one that really intrigues me, will he be a flop? Will he be a success? Who knows. I am just glad that MON has finally shown some balls and taken a chance on a player from outside of the Premiership!! This guy could be another Petrov or Maloney or he could be an Ashley Young (on level of performance and ability, not positional wise, obviously).

krfeskivilla, not all the Rangers fans are giving him their blessings mate, some are cursing him - albeit, most of the cursing being done is in the direction of the club. Sounds like we've picked ourselves up a gem here though, heres to hoping.

I have to admit krfeskivilla, that I have always preferred Rangers fans, I have known a few over the years and they are alot easier going than most Celtic fans I have met. Thats why I actually prefer Rangers (although most neutrals prefer Celtic, for whatever reason!!)

Everything I have read from Rangers fans is great for us, it really looks like we have a new "Dios" in the offing here. Could this guy really take Paul McGraths mantle as the best ever Villa defender? I sincerely hope so!! All hail MON, and all hail the new Dios!

If he's a solid partner for Laursen then that'll do for me. The terms being bandied about to describe him - i.e. "no-nonsense" and "uncompromising" are quite promising. Maybe we've got the new Terry Butcher instead?
