Unoial Villa News...

Steve Sidwell will definitely miss the first leg Uefa tie against the team I can't spell from Iceland. The calf strain he picked up prior to the Reading game, that also kept him out of our two games in Spain hasn't fully cleared up so O'Neill has opted to not risk him this time round.

Martin Laursen has warned his team mates to stay focussed in Iceland when we play Hafnarfjardar as he believes they 'will be looking to cause an upset.' What I've always wondered is do the players draw straws on who gets to give the 'warning' articles on the OS? Laursen doesn't fancy our Uefa Cup run coming to an abrupt end if we allow complacency to creep in, he wants the same kind of professionalism we saw against Odense. Ian Holloway has explained to everybody why we have washing machines, and he subtly suggests Liverpool buy one. Speaking to Setanta Sports, Holloway says that the way in which the Barry saga has come to light has highlighted a lack of morality in the modern game. Praising O'Neill for his handling of the situation, a former Foxes manager himself, said Liverpool should 'put up or shut up'. On being asked who his tip for the Top 4 would be this season, Holloway said: 'I'd like to think Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa. 'It could be very worrying about Barry and how these things happen. Why does everyone know about that? In the good old days, Liverpool would've made a secret offer to Villa and no-one would've known about it. Not even the player. This Is Why We Have Washing Machines

Alan Smith has joined the ranks of players linked to Aston Villa. Don't really believe it but hey ho! Alan Smith Joins Joe Cole In Villa Transfer Links

Has our very own manager, Martin O'Neill taken leave of his senses?!?! Not only has he already brought in six players (and hopefully a seventh with Cuellar today) he is saying that he doesn't intend to stop buying. Blimey, the moaning in the forums might soon grind to a halt!!! MON told the official site 'If we're going to try and compete, even at Premier League level let alone Europe, we need a decent squad. So we need to keep adding quality if we can.' Has Martin O'Neill Taken Leave Of His Senses?!?!

Martin Laursen is named in the Danish squad to take part in next week's friendly against European champions Spain. Which silly arse decided to play a friendly just after the new season started for goodness sake?!?!

Martin O'Neill admitted over the weekend that he may well be using Gareth Barry in the Uefa Cup game this Thursday again FH Hafnarfjordur he will then be cup tied and unable to feature for Liverpool or any other club for that matter in the Champions League. The Villa manager told the official site: 'He's our player and though things could change, if Gareth is still our player on Wednesday morning, he's as good a chance of climbing on the bus as anybody.'

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by Ruddy, which part of the squad needs strengthening the most? Strikers (68%) Midfield (13%) Just general back up all over (12%) Defence (6%) No idea! (1%)

Vital Villa asked in our last poll: How Many More Players Will Villa Sign?! 61% said we'd get another 2-3 21% were more optimistic and voted 4-5. 7% were on the happy pills and predicted 6 or more! That left 6% saying no more arrivals and 5% just 1.

Thought for the day: 'Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.'

wow, you guys really are staring to look a decent side! and I hate to say it, but spurs do too... if liverpool finaly admit that they cant afford barry (and somehow he is forgiven for wanting to leave...etc.) you could really push them all the way to the champions league!

Be very interesting to see if Gareth Barry is utilised tomorrow by MON over in Iceland. Will certainly tell us a lot.
