Poll Results: 68% Say Go For Striker Next!

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by Ruddy,

Which part of the squad needs strengthening the most?

The majority voted that we need the forward line improved on as 68% said strikers.

Midfielders were needing according to 13% and 12% voted just general back up all over.

That left 6% voting defence, a figure that started to go down with the news we were in the process of bringing in Rangers central defender Carlos Cuéllar.

1% said they had no idea.

It's got to be someone who can play RW next - surely! A quality RW and a "20 goal a season" striker and we'd be in dreamland!

I think that Carew, Gabby and Harewood will be well supported by young Delfouneso and Maloney this year. A right sided midfielder so help create the goals would be nice. I think taking a punt on Lennon form Spurs would be worthwhile, if there is a Manager that can help him develop an end product its MON. And imagine the pace of Lennon and Gabby running at defences!

Bazzah, i agree 100%

keith, we've got pretty much a twin of Lennon already at the club in Routledge, so I wouldn't see the point in us going for him - nt to mention the fact he's publicly stated he's more than happy to stay at Spurs. My bet still remains with James Milner.
Mayo_12
Routledge has consistantly underperformed in the top flight, whereas Lennon has shown spells that suggest he could be turned into the real thing. Having said that, if Routledge can be dragged up to the standard he displayed at Palace in his teens and force his way into the first team that will be as good as a new signing. Not sure what 20 goal a season striker would be tempted by the UEFA cup, there aren't that many about and plenty of Champions League sides for them choose from.
keithlees1978
lennon or swp would be nice. We can't rely on routledge yet as a first teamer. i think i'm alone in thinking santa cruz is a risk, he's had one decent season before that his goal record was very very poor (38 goals in 188 apps, thank you wiki) and hes very injury prone
_aron_
Why don't we risk it and buy Giles Barnes from Derby? Surely MON would relish developing his raw talent?
paintnothing
I don't think Santa Cruz will bring anything to the side that Carew doesn't, as you say aron, his career goalscoring record is not great. As far as proven goalscorers go, I don't think we'll get one, certainly not one with the team ethic that MON utilises to such good effect. But if Carew and Gabby can get 15 or so each, with support from Harewood, Maloney, Delfouneso, Young, Sidwell and a right winger we'll get the goal we need to succeed.
keithlees1978
we need some one like cole or swp added to the midfield and a 20 goal a season striker which would mean smashing our transfer record, but it would be worth it if he gets goals, but who that could be is a tough call
pksandell
MON doesn't like taking risks, but to find a top striker he may have to buy from abroad - like Jo to Man City. Santa Cruz is the only one in the prem we may possibly maybe get. milner was our top player a few seasons back, so i'd love him back at VP. giles barnes is a good shout - thought someone would have got him by now...
ric112
How about a punt for Ruud V Nistlerooy....quality poacher and still one of the most lethal guys about...at his age he could pass on so much to Gabby and would be much like Larsson was at Man U....been saying Giles Barnes for ages by the way...lots of potential at midfield.
koolbill
Ruud would be superb, he'd get 20 or more for sure. Is he available?!?!?
The Fear
Don't know JF. I feel Madrid are happy with their lot and aren't buying a striker so Ruud will not be dispatched yet...but wouldn't it be nice if MoN pulled it out of the bag.....ruud is so cunning and sneaky...just be excellent for us.
koolbill
Frank RIBERY - now that's a signing!
koolbill
James Milner wide right, and another striker, someone preferably proven at the premiership level, someone who can vary our attacking options. Over to you Mart. Been a good summer of signings so far, no reason to believe that Martin wont come through again.
glensider
Must admit I'm not overly excited about our supposed pursuit, or interest, in Roque Santa Cruz of Blackburn.
