'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Laursen 'Remain Focused'

Martin Laursen has warned his team mates to stay focussed in Iceland when we play Hafnarfjardar as he believes they 'will be looking to cause an upset.'

What I've always wondered is do the players draw straws on who gets to give the 'warning' articles on the OS?

Laursen doesn't fancy our Uefa Cup run coming to an abrupt end if we allow complacency to creep in, he wants the same kind of professionalism we saw against Odense.

Speaking on the official site, he said:

'It was nice to see Villa in the UEFA Cup draw and it was nice to be part of that. We want to see that many more times this season.

'I think we've got a good draw and I'm happy with it. Obviously it's not going to be easy but I think we've got a good chance to go through.

'But we will approach the game professionally. You can lose to anybody. They're professionals as well and they will want to win.

'Obviously they're not playing in the Premier League like we are but still they can play football and on a bad day for us, if we're not concentrating, then we can lose to a side like FH Hafnarfjardar.

'So we must be careful and take this game seriously. We took Odense seriously in the Intertoto Cup and that is how we should always be.

'I don't like to talk about the attitude because we are all professionals and we get a lot of money to play football. So we should go into each game with the right attitude.

'There's no excuse for not having the right attitude - even though we play against an Icelandic team and are favourites to win, you need to have the right attitude to win every time you start a game.'

Proper captain material!

We all remember the game against Doncaster Rovers in 2005, so Laursens caution should be taken seriously. We were totally outplayed that night by a League One side.

Hope he gets the captaincy...I'd be surprised if he didn't to be honest. It'll be fantastic if his knee shows this season it really has recovered and he doesn't pick up any injuries.

If there's one player who we could all safely assume would be completely focused on the task in hand, its Martin Laursen.

Certainly wouldn't upset me to see him land himself the captaincy Mayo_12, but I must admit that part of me hopes that Nigel Reo-Coker lands the role. Two players certainly qualified and worthy of captaining this great club of ours.
